Maternal behaviour and health during pregnancy can have adverse effects in the mental health of the children + an area that needs additional support e.g. affordable healthcare in places like the USA (where #ABCD study was collected). With thanks to @RCSI_Irl @ERC_Research

4. Compared to controls Persistent PE 31% more likely in children whose mothers smoked, 48% more likely in those who used drugs & 8% more in those with more prenatal complications Transient PE was 32% more likely in child whose mothers who smoked & 8% more for cumulative risk

3. Cumulative number of prenatal adversities were associated with an increased frequency of distressing PE in childhood. However, as with maternal smoking, this effect decreased as the child entered adolescence, suggesting specific risk factors for childhood PE
