I look at this and think, that “either” needs to be “whether,” “achieved” perhaps “arranged”; “horribly” might have been cut. Thank god for Claire Foster

"'Precarious Lease' takes in everyone, and is gracious and radical in its vision. It is a stunning work of witness." @claireloufoster reviews Jacqueline Feldman's book about Paris's artistic squat scene, "Precarious Lease." lareviewofbooks.org/article/give-t…

'Opening a squat isn't a very highly collective activity, even if it's better done as a team or small group – it was living together as two hundred people within the squat that made the greatest demands.' Julia Steiner interviews @jacquefeld: thelondonmagazine.org/interview-jacq…

@Greg_Gerke I’ve only read a little of The Passenger but so far I like the sister… I do think that a lot of male writers aren’t able to write characters who don’t sound like them, doing so is undervalued in the way of a lot of feminized labor. For sure “seriousness” is not very descriptive

I do think Cormac couldn't write women, but I truly don't think "masculine seriousness" is a hallmark of his style. Was it for Faulkner? Eudora Welty? Djuna Barnes? Pamela Ryder? I'm not sure style can be parsed this way--on the surface, maybe. But not in the fine grain...

Read this excerpt from PRECARIOUS LEASE, a work of reportage on a Parisian squat by one of my favorite contemporary writers @jacquefeld. We worked together on an early draft, extraordinary even then, and I'm thrilled to see that it will be published by FE.

Ah yes, Fall Books. That time of the year when all major publications cover the same 10 books that I’m unlikely to read. Anyway heres’s some books I’m looking forward to this Fall. Let me know — based on the aesthetics of this list — if I missed some.
