Is Mark Carney trying to take us into the European Union? Over the past year, Mark Carney has tried to bring Canada closer to Europe. He has repeatedly described our country as "the most European non-European country," whatever that means, and just recently declared that "the international order will be rebuilt out of Europe." But it's not just Carney trying to draw us closer. Multiple high-profile politicians in Europe including French foreign minister Jean-Noël Barrot, Swedish prime minister Ulf Kristersson, and Finnish president Alexander Stubb. But here's the reality: Europe is not the future. Europe is a stagnant continent that is producing NOTHING, and the evidence is overwhelming. Every European G7 economy is projected to grow at a slower pace than both the United States and Canada this year and in the years ahead. The US is projected to grow at a rate of 2.1% this year, while Canada is projected to grow 1.5%. Europe, by contrast, is expected to grow by just 0.9%. Of the world's 2,092 unicorn companies, which are start-ups valued at over $1 billion, just 163 are in the European Union. Canada, with less than 1/10th of the population of the EU, has 30. A Canadian is over TWICE AS LIKELY to found a $1 billion company than a European. Meanwhile, the United States contains the MAJORITY of the world's unicorn companies. Europe is so energy poor that they're struggling to build data centres now, while the United States is rapidly investing in this industry of the future. Canada is moving much faster than Europe is on this front, and is ahead of nearly every EU nation on AI R&D except Germany and the UK, both of which are much larger than Canada. The future is not in Europe. Canada's trade relationship with the United States cannot be replaced by a continent that doesn't build, doesn't innovate, and doesn't grow. If we want to succeed in the 21st century, that means working cooperatively with our southern neighbour to make both of our countries as rich asn prosperous as possible.
