Working on this is part of my new job! Even more to come blogs.windows.com/windows-inside…

@shanselman Window tiling manager. Plz :) at some point :) I think the things in this blog go above it but I’d switch off Linux in a heartbeat if windows had a nstive i3 or hyprland esk desktop env option.

New Linux client for GeForce Now is awesome! Just played Fortnite on Omarchy in 4K via a remote 4080, and it was shockingly playable! (5 kills, but to my excuse, I've been a tablet player for years 😂). Really nice way to get excellent gaming on Linux 🤘blogs.nvidia.com/blog/geforce-n…

@tansoloz @Megatron_ron Bro you adopt AI slop as a writing style. Or is this chat?

This is how platform shifts start.
Not with bans
with ownership changes that break trust.
When users sense tighter control or different incentives, they don’t protest.
They migrate.
Expect a slow bleed from TikTok
and a steady influx into X
where reach, discourse, and optionality still exist.
Attention always moves before policy catches up.

@fairyforst @nsg650 @losertwoner Oh shit lol. I see. Yeah that’s mega jank. Thanks for sharing that! Not sure the reason behind their decision but that is scary lol

Even a fresh stock Ubuntu install would be more usable and less broken than this distro ductaped together using bash scripts and hopes and dreams
Vihar@itsNemo_69
Go ahead, name a better Linux distro than Omarchy. I’ll wait 😌

@CultistZolon And steam to your point. Just making gaming accessible. Their work in Linux I think is just the best thing I’ve seen in tech in the last 5 years. Mad respect to valve and totally with you. Will purchase if I can afford
English

@CultistZolon Steam has like always been a thing for as long as so can remember at least (27 here). But I used to think like wow I can see why “other companies make their own launchers”.
Honestly it’s funny because those other companies are the ones who do try to exploit and be assholes.
English

So... real talk.
I was against Steam in the early days. I thought a gaming platform was a terrible idea for the longevity of gaming itself.
I was mad when I brought home my first game that didn't install off the disk, but rather downloaded directly from Steam instead.
I grew frustrated as I watched all of gaming coalesce into one major ecosystem - I felt this was too much power for one organization to have over gaming itself, as other platforms simply failed to reach the expansive library Steam boasted.
Years down the line, as we've seen literally every other gaming company seem to grow more and more awful, Steam has just been quietly continuing to do their thing, and in fact, releases features people actually genuinely ask for. They seem to treat their employees well, they haven't caved to exploitative policies, and they've become the home to most of my favorite games.
So yeah. I'll probably pick up a Steam Machine when it comes out if I can afford it. What a wild, strange trip its been.

@justhetech @dhh It's open in a sense, though negatively affected by Microsoft's influence. In theory, it already does support it. There may be edge cases between Arch and Omarchy, and it's non-trivial to set up either way.

I have a lot of plans for how we make Omarchy even better for corporate use. Like private migrations integrated directly with the system update for fleet wide updates and bootstrapping.

We're officially on the path to move completely to #Omarchy for all of our dev work at @tech_fabric. Testing out bunch of hardware starting with @FrameworkPuter.
English

@davydotcom @dhh Yeesh. I’ll look into that I’m sure it’s a PITA and I’m not suspecting it’s very streamlined like say getting a cert from let’s encrypt lol on the browser side of things for public trust.
Thanks for the info! :)
English

@davydotcom @dhh So basically you have to get keys from Microsoft for your arch implementation sign your stuff with them and then you’re “in?” lol. Idk just seems kinda the opposite of “open”
English

@justhetech @dhh Unfortunately secure boot is an odd one. Most hardware ships with preinstalled MICROSOFT keys that are utilized for secure boot. It’s been a largely Microsoft controlled implementation. It’s doable , just one of the pain points .
English

@dhh For context, about 17 (including myself) developers at the company I work for want to switch to omarchy and our IT/Sec teams said not until it supported secure boot (even though you encrypt the drive)
English

@dhh Yo DHH. I know you mentioned it doesn’t support secure boot from the bios but does support encryption. Is secure boot really a windows thing? It should be an “open” standard right?
Is it this problem of getting binaries signed?

@davidtoniolo @dhh @cmonkey @FrameworkPuter Ha - yeah what I get for not proof reading :).
Anyway good luck in your choice! LMK if I can answer any other questions. I hope you get one :) it’s good to support companies that at least try to put consumers first in this VC funded capitalistic hell. (Being dramatic ;))
English

Oh no big deal, that's just @cmonkey — the CEO of @FrameworkPuter — patching Omarchy to fix Intel GPU video acceleration for everyone. What an absolute legend! (Fix is shipping in the next point release!)

English

@davidtoniolo @dhh @cmonkey @FrameworkPuter Specifically though to answer the question I think due to the more module nature of the 16 the framework 13 feels more “sturdy” and thus higher “quality” ofc they’re not high quality tho.
