The targeting of relatives of Uyghurs living abroad is a widespread and systematic tactic used by Beijing. This form of collective punishment is a textbook example of transnational repression, aimed at silencing dissent and spreading fear among the Uyghur diaspora. In this case, it appears intended to send a clear message to @eri_arfiya: to back away from addressing the Uyghur genocide and China’s campaign of transnational repression.
