Your copywriters may be killing your team’s efficiency. The market is flooded with writers right now who are painfully slow OR embarrassingly mediocre. Successful copywriters are: - Competent and adaptable - Fast and furious Finding unicorns who nail those qualities is rare as hell. You need both. I've seen "experienced" copywriters take 3 days to write what should be done in 3 hours. I've watched brands pay premium rates for copy that reads like it was written by an AI from 2018. And it's directly impacting your bottom line and your output. There’s a recurring quote the Navy SEALs love to use: "Slow is smooth, smooth is fast" - but most copywriters never get past the slow part. Fantastic slow work is useless in this game. Shitty fast work is equally useless. We're in the business of both. When someone needs 48 hours to turn around a campaign that a seasoned pro could knock out before lunch, that's not "being thorough" - that's inefficiency masquerading as quality. But most brands don't know how to set their writers up for success. Junior copywriters need DETAILED briefs. The more detailed your brief, the quicker the turnaround should be. Period. But if you're giving comprehensive direction and they're still dragging their feet, that's not a brief problem. That's a talent problem. Knowing how to genuinely speak to your audience is shockingly rare. Most writers default to generic "best practices" instead of actually understanding what moves customers to action. If you want writers who deliver both quality & speed, you need to change your approach: - Test writers' ability to write persuasively under pressure before hiring - Create progressively less detailed briefs as they prove themselves - Set clear time expectations upfront - Judge performance based on results The email copywriters worth keeping aren't just good with words - they're ruthlessly focused on driving action and output. Anything less is just filling space in an inbox.

Fun Fact: This company fired me before I got to $200M. They fired me because I didn't want to switch ESP's from Klaviyo to Hubspot. The person who was forcing me to switch got fired a couple months after I got fired. They forgot to delete my Klaviyo access and they are HURTING.
