Gordon finished this game with just 17 touches in 73 minutes. Criticise him all you want, but there's no way he'd ever have that little involvement in our system. England barely played down his side, rarely got him on the ball, and almost never found him in positions where he could actually do something despite his movement. Call it making excuses if you want, but expecting a winger to consistently impact a game with that level of involvement is unrealistic. At Barça, he'd see far more of the ball, receive it in much better situations, and have players capable of finding his runs regularly.
