If someone's being replaced, they were not doing good enough (or with enough personality) work. Period. The fucking whining and little rage bait posts by mid and low level designers on X is unbearable these days. The same people who barely took a 2-year technical education in "graphics" and just copy-pasted shit they saw on dribbble or pinterest for 10 years and called themselves a designer. Slop was here way before AI. They coasted on the technical moat and that ride is over.

@olegcoada Appreciate your honest post. It's not whining about AI and it's not rage-baiting! 🙌 Thanks for that. But I also have to agree with some comments here and say that the "classic" 20+ page brand docs are just a way to artificially inflate the value of (some) design work.

The point is not generating directly for final. Even though I will say (as an old school designer who started 20+ years ago), the amount of human slop in the last 10 years has been unbearable. AI is not to blame for that. But I digress. The important shift right now is that the thinking behind image generation just took a MASSIVE leap forward. That’s a signal. Smart people can already see and predict the shift in how work is done, both for freelancers and agencies alike. The point here is not to generate and use “slop” for final. It is to work WITH it to exponentially grow your ability to brainstorm, critique, refine, curate and finalize proper work. The way I see it, a major shift just happened in AI image generation and no amount of doom and gloom and resistance will stop what is coming (and part of it already here).

It’s freaking nuts. I am flabbergasted since last night studying these and the capabilities of GPT Image 2. I’ve never uttered these hyperbolic AI terms before, but I will say this now…Things are MASSIVELY changing and creative professionals and agencies will go through unprecedented metamorphosis this year. Terrifying and extremely exciting at the same time.

Tried it myself and the results are UNBELIEVABLE. First time since the first launch of chatgpt years go that I actually got butterflies with the output of an AI model. Surreal. The reasoning and image precision is nothing short of magical. Obviously these outputs still cannot be used directly for final, but goddamn look where we are now in terms of brainstorming, inspiration, case studies…agencies are going to mutate and pivot heavily this year.

@modomango Midjourney is 👑 when it comes to textures, chaos, beauty, interestingness. It's in a league of its own. That comes at the expense of virtually non existent prompt following. But Glif has all the other models for that

Even though AI honesty is a problem, it is not solvable currently and the beauty judgement issue is a different problem altogether. Judgement on hard data (e.g. BMI, dietary habits, sleep hours, etc.), sure. It can and should be done. But subjective beauty, design, abstract thinking, et al, are not only dependant on undefinable meta-cognition experience, they also change constantly depending on the zeitgeist, or even the evolution of the conversation itself in real-time. We are solving a sh*t ton of stuff with "AI" and the speed of improvement is insane. But we tend to forget these are LLMs - and NOT "intelligence", as the "AI" moniker suggests. That label (AI) is a marketing term actively chosen years ago and is used to inflate expectations and animate stakeholders and the public at large. An AI that solves subjective, meta-cognition dependent "qualia" is a completely different system than what we have today. When that happens, we will be far beyond AGI already and would have proven most deterministic, materialist world views - i.e. that consciousness can arise in any system (biological or not) simply depending on loops and complexity (Φ - phi, as IIT defines it). For now, honesty within hard systems can be tested and simulated (albeit poorly) with system prompting and uncensored local models, just for fun.

This is the problem with AI right now in ONE screenshot. LLMs are TOO agreeable. and that's actually a billion dollar opportunity. There are MULTIPLE billion dollar companies hiding in plain sight here. the entire concept is just: AI that pushes back. If AI is your employee... Well, your best employee isn't the one who says "great idea boss" to everything. it's the one who tells you your idea sucks before you waste 6 months on it. Brutally honest AI for fitness coaching. Dating profiles. Financial planning. Copywriting. Design feedback. Hiring decisions. Etc etc. The niches are endless and nobody's building for them yet. Someone please go build this
