M78 is just above Orion's Belt and is a reflection nebula, meaning the light you see is reflected starlight from some of the very luminous stars hiding in the dust and gas. This area is also the site of active star formation with a handful of Herbig-Haro objects.

Finally had a chance to process this amazing data from a 17-inch Planewave CDK scope in Chile that was captured the second half of January 2022. I was actually surprised how much color there was so I went with it.
