Happy March Madness opener, @UHCougarMBK fans. Kelvin Sampson hopes to secure two wins in OKC this week. He had one goal before the Round of 64: reunite with a collection of dear friends from his time at @OU_MBBall. “A trainer that I had at Oklahoma called me. And when we worked together, his kids were just little girls. Now, they've gotten married and had children. So he said, 'hey, can I bring the grandkids by to meet you?' Here’s Luka on his trash talk with fans courtside after clutch late buckets. "Some guys talking crazy, showing me his ... never mind. [I responded] in English, make sure he understands." Did the trash talk set him off in the 4th? "Nah, first quarter after I missed like first four shots, then he started talking. I heard him, so." Fan's taunts didn't do much good for Houston. 40 for Luka tonight, 76 across two games at Toyota Center this week.

And here’s LeBron on Rockets and @KDTrey5 adjusting to the trap, especially in 3rd quarter (KD scored 13). “You can't show a great player a steady diet of the same. We showed a little bit of what we did in the first half in the 3rd quarter, and he exploited us. I think he went for 12 or 14 in the 4th quarter, so we had to keep changing pitches because he's just that great.”

JJ Redick was impressed with Rockets’ response to the KD trap, btw. “You could see in the 'horns flash' every time he got the ball, going quickly and sort of not allowing the double team and rejected it a number of times and got to his spots, drew fouls, hit his pull-ups. “Good adjustment on his part.”

Just asked Ime Udoka about Kevin Durant’s preference to NOT be the lead ball-handler (and “get out of the way”) when opponents go to KD trap. Does Udoka agree with that? Not quite. “A lot of times he's gonna be initiating. … The double teams outside of turning it over have been very good for us this year. It bit us in the behind a few times, but overall the numbers show it [goes] really well when we don't turn it over and get it to scorers in the pocket and make the right play. But, obviously, the turnovers, way too high.” Adds: “We do want some other actions when [Durant] is being denied the way he is and trapped at the half court.”

Doesn’t want to be the lead ball-handler when opponents show that coverage: “Maybe I just gotta get out the way, get in the corner, space the floor out for other guys.” More from @KDTrey5: “When I get the ball against certain teams they just gonna sell out and say 'we just gonna double and play a little zone behind you and see what happens, if we give up open shots that's cool.’ “It's been happening throughout the season, I'm starting to figure out I think I just need to get out the way and let other guys handle the ball.”

Asked LeBron postgame tonight if any version of @KDTrey5 was the toughest player he’s had to guard. LeBron: “Shit, I mean, every version.” LeBron on Durant through the years ⬇️ On KD in Golden State: “[He] was super dynamic because you couldn't put multiple bodies in front of him because of the threat of Klay and Steph at all times. You know, so that was super dynamic.” On KD in Brooklyn: “Smaller sample, but when Kyrie and James were there, you couldn't put multiple bodies. Any time you can't put multiple bodies in front of a player that can score like that it's very challenging.” On KD in OKC: “Even when he was young with Russ and James, he's never not been great at basketball.” Cool perspective from King James 👑

If they’re going to put two on the ball and trap KD, you’d think #Rockets would have KD screen instead of playing point guard. Even then, Houston spacing was awful outside of the trap. And no other player can beat their man one-on-one or off switches consistently.

24 turnovers for @HoustonRockets tonight. Seven for Kevin Durant. Rockets couldn’t handle Lakers trap in 4th quarter. Does Udoka want Durant or other players starting possessions late? "It's a combination of both. You don't want [Durant] with the ball every time, especially if you're not making the team pay for that." More from Ime: “We try to do both. Different guys handling, [Durant] setting [screens] and knowing weren't leaving his body, we weren't able to get downhill as easily as we have in previous games, and then when he's handling you want to find the pocket and make a play out of it, you have numbers behind it. ... You move him off ball some, set him off screens some, and others have to make plays.” (Great question from @brandonkscott, btw)
