Endlessly grateful for the honesty and truth that @heymrsbond brings to the table every single time. We love your children. We do not want to die for them. We want to LIVE ALONGSIDE them. We want to build a full, meaningful world in tandem with them.

This is why I don’t do nihilism… We have solutions & better options than capitalism. Whether capitalism is overthrown or simply implodes or both— there’s another, better world on the other side of this waiting for us to build it

In 3 yrs this #solar installation at an Arkansas high school turned the district’s budget from a $250K deficit to a $1.8 million surplus. They're using the surplus to pay teachers more We have the solutions. Implement them. #ActOnClimate #ClimateAction #climate #NoWarNoWarming

ash ✭@ashesindastreet

had a girl tell me she thought we had a spencer’s in the mall i work at because chatgpt said we did, i told her we don’t and she would know that if she googled the mall directory and she said “you can do that?”

‘Tech companies believe in intellectual property, but not yours.” Great piece in The Atlantic pointing out that AI companies spend huge amounts of money simultaneously (i) defending their own IP and (ii) arguing that they can use other people’s for free. theatlantic.com/technology/202…

People will say, “I want to be a novelist but I don’t like reading books.” Or, “I want AI to generate my novels for me.” Consider that perhaps writing novels isn’t the career for you!

If AI writes your lesson plans, designs assignments, grades student work, composes emails to families, or "transforms teaching and planning in any way" I hope you're honest about it. Your principal, colleagues, students, and parents have the right to know.

If genAI is so "good" then lets put a tag on everything produced with it. Tag your products, tag your writing, hell tag your college diploma. Lets see what the market actually thinks when AI usage is fully disclosed.

Every celebrity in Hollywood has been crashing out over Timothée Chalamet’s comments about ballet and opera, but all of a sudden none of them can find their voice to talk about this.

‘The Voice of Hind Rajab’ star Motaz Malhees says he cannot enter the U.S. for the #Oscars this Sunday because of his Palestinian citizenship: “It hurts. But here is the truth. You can block a passport. You cannot block a voice.”

This scheme will be profitable only if everyone becomes so dumb that Chat-GPT, that error-prone suck-up, actually becomes the better option. And that’s what the push for AI in schools is about: making sure people no longer know anything, least of all how to think.

I do not want my drs using a LLM. I do not want my lawyers using an LLM. I thank God I do not have children because I woukd not want their teachers to use an LLM. Critical thinking has value. And I find it so surprising that anyone is embracing genAI. 1/4

influencers have replaced everything. being an actor or a musician or a writer is just treating your work as fodder for sponsored social media posts and brand deals. politicians see their jobs as clip farming. real life is just a content farm for shortform vertical video

Being under 40 today is wondering whether you should save aggressively for anything resembling retirement or spend it on the things you've always wanted to do or see because you have a feeling there won't be a world TO retire in.

100% agreed. Note that the hallucinations happen even at the micro level. I've been trying to use Claude as a way to search a couple hundred pages of transcribed documents and notes for a particular project. It repeatedly invents minor details for no reason.
Flint Dibble 🍖🏺@FlintDibble

But it's not true. In my field (archaeology), even with the latest models I see rampant hallucinations. AI gets the general picture decent, but when you ask it on specifics, it invents references, randomly combines unrelated details, and just plain gets stuff wrong 1/4
