@leah_pierson My understanding is that this is basically what Unitarian Universalist congregations offer.

It’s a bummer that there’s nothing super akin to religious services for people who aren’t religious. Like, it sounds great to have a dedicated time/beautiful place to sing, hang out with a community that shares your values, and think about how to live a good life.

How did we get to the point where so-called "specialists" are not just medically uninformed (in their area of specialization) but also see their role as simply treating disease before them rather than working in community to address EASY solutions for public health 4/n

@RichardsnGraham ^this is such a good point. why throw 100mil into a new development when the parks that are ALREADY in neighborhoods where kids live and play go to waste, in dire need of maintenance?

Here’s the thing, we walk to Palumbo. We also walk to practices at Starr Garden and Capitolo rec centers. I don’t want to have to schlep my kid out to FDR for soccer practice or games

I wrote this piece about FDR park plan because the nitpicking - whether to keep the meadows intact, whether to reduce the number of soccer fields - has dominated the debate. But unless something is done, climate change will make the park unusable. bit.ly/3ezGoTQ

@leah_pierson tho, this is mostly based on what I know about CHOP from annie, who wouldn't test her for an unmasked + indoors exposure to known +. i don't think CHOP staff are "technically" affiliated with the uni, but this relates to the larger weirdness about hoarding resources

@leah_pierson totally! i actually think the uni testing infrastructure is build in excess of need & they share the same campus, but the uni-hosp relationship seems really complicated. that being said, i don't think it would be that complicated to tell staff to walk across the street.

For most of the pandemic, I—a grad student—have had better access to COVID testing than my fiancé—a doctor. This is pretty wild, since 1) he needs the testing way more than I do, and 2) universities built their testing infrastructure from the ground up and hospitals didn't.
