I’m well aware that Starmer is not liked and is criticised from both the left and the right, which demand exactly opposite things.
But I have to say it: he gives me the impression of a good man trying to do the right thing, with all the fallibility that comes with being human.

Because I want politicians representing double-digit percentages of the vote (if not the electorate) to be people who can be taken seriously, even if I disagree with them, and who communicate with the public with ideas, not by channelling 90s sub-culture that was itself at its best in the dark. The fact that he cannot sustain a coherent economic argument that reflects an understanding of reality -- as several interviews now attest -- demonstrates that he has spent more time prancing around than attempting to develop an understanding of what society requires of politics and politicians. "Oggy oggy oggy", "oi oi oi" is the measured depth of the conversation between these jokers and the public. They may well understand each other, but it doesn't mean anything.
