PHMSA has the tools to fix this. It has made a commitment to do better. We’re asking the agency to follow through because the communities that live alongside the nation’s pipeline infrastructure are counting on it.

Advocates and researchers need access to PHMSA’s reasoning to evaluate whether the regulatory framework is working as intended.

How many more people need to die before we ban the presence of Aldyl-A pipe?

Since 1988, NTSB has recognized Aldyl-A pipe as problematic pipe material and PHMSA added Aldyl-A service tees to a list of pipe materials with “poor performance histories relative to brittle-like cracking” in a voluntary advisory bulletin in Sept.
 2007.

A guidance document that simply restates existing requirements is not an appropriate response to the NTSB recommendation. The victims of this explosion deserve an enforceable rule, and so does every community living near gas, hazardous liquid, and carbon dioxide pipelines.

A new PHMSA Advisory Bulletin falls short of addressing an NTSB recommendation stemming from a 2018 natural gas-fueled home explosion in Dallas, TX that killed one person and injured four others.
