@AitkenRob @MarkSiddallRIBA @BenAdamSmith Air tightness layer is outside - two layers to kept external insulation away from wind. Both layers fully taped including openings. I guess benefit of external air tightness is house can be passed on to second user who may or may not be careful with high performance envelope.

@pulpbuild @MarkSiddallRIBA @BenAdamSmith Where is your airtightness layer? On our house we used thicker battens for the services gap to ensure that screws holding the drywall would not puncture the airtightness membrane on the outer side of the services gap.

Just finished listening to ⁦@MarkSiddallRIBA⁩ on ⁦@BenAdamSmith⁩ podcast about What reduced insulation performance? And we though, we would share how close or near perfect our wall build-up was on our very first small scale project back in 2018.

@RichardWillan20 @MarkSiddallRIBA @BenAdamSmith @WikiHouse I guess you can do that. In this case service cavity is kept outside of building fabric to ensure future proofing. Trade off of having service cavity is end user has to be little careful where they can hang things.

@RichardWillan20 @MarkSiddallRIBA @BenAdamSmith It is close to SIP type system where you have two layers of 18mm plywood on both internal & external with installation in between. It's an open-source @WikiHouse system. External battens are 75x25 vertical and horizontal creating sunscreen system with 50mm air gap.

@pulpbuild @MarkSiddallRIBA @BenAdamSmith Is the structural ‘stud’ in that wall build-up four bits of ply screwed together to make a box in plan with insulation in between? Never seen that before if so.

@DavidGibbons @MarkSiddallRIBA @BenAdamSmith External insulation is strapped using 75x25 vertical battens which is attached to the 18mm ply using 6mm washer head structural screws. Another layer of horizontal battens attached to the vertical ones. Reducing thermal bringing through screws. Larch is fixed to vertical battens

@shepherdmg @MarkSiddallRIBA @BenAdamSmith Internal you have 12mm plaster board, 400c/c 2x2 studs and 18mm spruce plywood. No need for drill and plugs.

@ScottishPaddler @AliceRDavies Humidity only becomes a problem if it meets cold surfaces and cold air. Airtight the building first and reduce thermal bridging. Fiabric first is the only solution.
