Spot on! It’s not the average firefighter’s or policeman’s efforts that are being questioned and put under the microscope. It’s the political leadership—and the lack or absence of political will—that is being criticized. How many such disastrous incidents have to happen before meaningful changes are brought about? The whole system has failed to ensure the average citizen’s well-being, safety, and protection. That is what everyone is talking about today—whether one agrees or not. It’s all about the fast-deteriorating quality of life in this congested and overpopulated capital city of the nation.

This is where you get me wrong you think you know me too well. I was on the other side doing the same. I moved the bikes, helped residents, and cleared the roads for the airport fire truck along with many others who were there. The fire was blazing from this side of the godown. The clips I took was for a clear purpose: to show that there are faults in the system that need to be addressed, instead of always applauding it. The fire truck was without water for over 15 minutes. I’m not downplaying the effort, but they clearly do not have the resources to tackle fires like this especially in chemical godowns and shops. I was there when Coastline went to ashes. I was there in Henveiru Bodu Hulhu. Even with such large budgets, MNDF still has to rely on the Airport FRS. And yet, they hesitate and wait instead of giving the go-ahead to bring it in immediately as soon as possible.

Thank you, once again. In every presidency, Airport FRS has been the one responding to major fires across the Greater Malé area. This is not something to be proud of it clearly reflects systemic negligence at the highest level. Relying on airport fire rescue resources for urban emergencies highlights a serious gap in national preparedness. An international airport operates under strict SOPs that require a dedicated number of fire and rescue vehicles to be available at all times for aviation incidents. Diverting those resources elsewhere not only stretches their capacity but also risks compromising airport safety itself. This situation underscores a long-standing failure to properly equip and strengthen the national fire and emergency response framework. A city as dense and high-risk as Malé requires its own fully capable, well-trained, and well-equipped firefighting force not one that depends on backup from the airport during critical situations. At its core, this is not about praising response efforts, but about questioning why such reliance continues to exist in the first place.

Our Airport Emergency Services team worked with MNDF Fire & Rescue to respond to a fire incident that occurred at a godown on Izzudhin Magu in Malé. Our vehicle and team were deployed and assisted at the scene.

@Midhuamsaud @Pohthu @looth_shahid Incorrect. Pressure stayed like that until the MACL truck arrived. My neighbors were talking about it. That’s exactly why I took the video. Been here since it started, & I’m still here. We need to address these issues instead of turning a blind eye & glorifying the situation.

I didn’t say MACL truck arrived right away, I said MNDF used whatever they had, and no, the pressure shown on the vid wasn’t how it was the whole time. It was taken only during the moment they had issues. If you want to report you report the whole thing. When you take a few second video only to share that bit, the intention isn’t to cover the incident nor what really happened. And no you can’t blame the MNDF officers who were working there for the late arrival of MACL truck. It’s called MACL truck for a reason. That really isn’t a truck allocated to fight fire in Male’. Before the bridge only when absolutely necessary MACL truck was moved to Male’ on a barge ( ex coastline fire ) which takes several hours. Lack of resources is due to policy decisions by policy makers. If we want to change that we have to direct our anger and criticisms to the policy makers not the officers on ground who clearly did whatever they could with the little they had. As someone living in front of the godown you must have had lot of vids too, let me check the feed.

This isn’t accurate. I was there with @looth_shahid when the fire was first noticed by neighbors. The two police officers who arrived immediately took action, moving people and securing the perimeters without any masks or protective gears although the area was filled with poisonous smoke. MNDF Fire & Rescue responded quickly and did everything possible with the resources available, tackling the fire strategically by prioritizing containment and preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings. If it hadn’t been managed the way it was, this could have escalated VERY quickly and taken adjacent buildings with it. The clip you shared only shows one of the smaller fire trucks at a moment when it had pressure issues, not the full response. Let’s not downplay or misrepresent the efforts of the MNDF and police officers who handled this incident by sharing clips like this out of context. 🙏🏾

@Pohthu @Midhuamsaud @looth_shahid As someone living in front of the godown, I can confirm that @Pohthu is correct & @Midhuamsaud is lying. The 1st video was taken at 9:45, the 2nd at 10:45. It took about an hour for the MACL fire truck to arrive; until then, they were using the hose seen in the 1st video

Dear Gen Z, This is how a serial murderer (Ismail Abdul Raheem Adam, M. Lagoonview, Male) secured a high paying job (45,000–50,000 MVR) at HDC. This is someone who killed at least two, who is now moving freely among you, in public spaces, in your neighbourhoods, in daily life.

It is alarming and troubling to see how ICE is being used as a weapon of terror by President Trump! I condemn the murders!! Quote from NY Mayor @ZohranKMamdani "Today’s general strike is a direct challenge to ICE’s brutality. We reject a system that terrorizes and dares to call it enforcement. Your courage is inspiring the world. The power is with the people! "

🚨ALARMING: The High Court has overturned the life sentences for Yameen Rasheed’s killers. Ordering a retrial & potentially freeing the accused individuals sends a chilling message: that lives of journos are expendable and justice is negotiable. We demand that the state take immediate measures to prevent the accused from walking free & to finally secure a definitive, just verdict. The culture of impunity must stop now.

Prosecutor General Abbas Shareef is listed in the #AdeebFiles multiple times asking to meet urgently. This was when he was a High Court Judge. Deputy Prosecutor General Aishath Mohamed led the MMPRC prosecution. She sat on this forensic report and overlooked serious crimes that could have led to multiple prosecutions.
