@hk_nien @MarionKoopmans We think it is the limited in-host replication in the host after vaccination. MVA replicates a single round without the production of progeny virus, whereas the more “classical” vaccinia vaccines established a productive infection😀

@MarionKoopmans Any speculation on why the immunity is so short-lived while smallpox immunity is lifelong? Where would you search for answers?

@svscarpino @thilogross @manlius84 @DirkBrockmann @sciencecohen There’s certainly no evidence of immune amnesia similar to what happens in measles, at least as far as I’m aware. Immune dysfunction, yes, but that’s a consequence of many viral infections.

Hey epidemics twitter. Loss of t and b cells due to covid seems to be a thing. Does that mean that infected could also lose immunity against other diseases? e.g. Measles? @svscarpino @manlius84 @DirkBrockmann

@svscarpino @thilogross @manlius84 @DirkBrockmann @sciencecohen I’m not aware of any evidence for this. The lymphopenia after COVID is quite different from what’s observed after measles, although it definitely warrants further investigation.
