Over 100 years of Norton Hall. 🏛️ In November 1924, the seminary community laid the cornerstone for the new Norton Hall as Southern Seminary prepared to move from downtown Louisville to its new home on Lexington Road. ㅤ 📚 When the building opened in March 1926, it housed classrooms, faculty and administrative offices, a library, and even a chapel, making it the center of daily life for the seminary community. ㅤ ⛪ Norton Hall has continued to grow over the years, with the northeast classroom wing added in 1947, Broadus Chapel dedicated in 1999, and Towery Plaza opening in 2011 as a gathering place for the campus community. ㅤ The view has changed over the years, but Norton Hall remains one of the most recognizable landmarks at Southern Seminary.

"My job is to help Christians explain the moral implications of the gospel: that if Jesus has come to save us, he has not evacuated us from the world. So what does the life of grace mean in the domain of nature? To know and follow Jesus is what Christian ethics is.” Dr. Andrew Walker is Associate Professor of Christian Ethics and Public Theology, Associate Dean of The School of Theology, and Director of the Carl F.H. Henry Institute for Evangelical Engagement. He teaches various classes on Christian Theology including Survey of Christian Ethics, Moral Theory, and more.

“And one of the biggest misunderstandings of Christian ethics is that it’s really just a discipline that asks, ‘What does the Bible say about... capital punishment, or abortion, or war?’ Christian ethics absolutely encompasses those topics, but it is about much more than narrowly defined issues proof-texted from Scripture. It’s about understanding the nature of reality, the nature of the human person, the constitution of basic human goods. One of my shorthand definitions of ethics is “applied theology.” So theology doesn’t stay just between our ears. Theology is meant to be lived out practically. It’s first a reflection of our belief in God and the transformation of the gospel in our hearts. But then it should have practical significance."

For Dr. Andrew T. Walker, Christian ethics helps believers think clearly about how faith shapes life in the world. He teaches students that ethics is not a narrow set of answers, but an integrated discipline shaped by Scripture, theology, and a biblical understanding of reality. In the classroom, Dr. Walker helps students see how the gospel carries moral significance for every area of life. His teaching equips them to reason carefully, engage culture wisely, and apply theological truth with clarity and conviction. "I think even more than theological and practical is that students come away as people who are passionate about the Lord, about solid doctrine and practicing it. And they do so with an attitude of humility and respect and, mutually trying to honor one another. I hope that my work would also propel students and those who read my books to obviously love the Lord their God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength, be passionate about assisting others and leading others in worship and being strong disciples of Jesus, and it would propel them to share their faith and engage missionally through church planting, and missionary work.” Dr. Gregg Allison is Professor of Christian Theology. He teaches various classes on Christian Theology including Systematic Theology III, Doctrine of the Holy Spirit, Theology of Human Embodiment, and more.

"So it's valuable for church members who should be reading and studying and memorizing and meditating on and applying the Bible, but it puts it together in a way that focuses on key issues that they should embrace. Systematic theology is about what we believe as Christians. When we know what we believe, then it's how do we live that out? How do we act in this world as Christians?"

For Dr. Gregg R. Allison, systematic theology gives clarity to the Christian life. He teaches students to see how the whole counsel of Scripture comes together in the core doctrines of the faith and how those truths shape daily living. In the classroom, Dr. Allison emphasizes both understanding and application, helping students connect doctrine to discipleship. His work forms students who hold firm convictions while cultivating humility and love for the church. Rooted in the Word: Wisdom from the English Particular Baptists by Dr. Michael A. G. Azad Haykin is available now! ㅤ The British Particular, or Calvinistic, Baptist community of the long eighteenth century (1680s-1830s) was a remarkable community in many ways. In addition to spearheading the modern missionary movement through men like William Carey, they also produced a wealth of biblical commentary, robust works of apologetics and spiritual biography, powerful sermons and rich hymns of worship. In this small volume, we look at three key figures from this world: John Gill, the remarkable autodidact who produce the first critical commentary of the whole Bible in English; Robert Robinson, who penned one of the most powerful hymns in the canon of hymnody, but who did not finish well; and John Fawcett, also a hymn writer and a man renowned in his day for his leadership of the Baptist cause in the North of England. While at SBC, we asked Southern alumni a simple question: What are you most thankful for from your time at Southern? Again and again, we heard the same themes: Faithful professors. A deeper love for God's Word. Preparation for the realities of ministry. Southern Seminary exists to equip men and women to serve Christ and his church, and it's always encouraging to hear how that training continues to bear fruit long after graduation. We're grateful for these alumni and the ways the Lord is using them in churches around the world.

What a joy to spend day one at TGCW connecting with women who love God's Word and care deeply about serving Christ faithfully. We've loved every conversation, from alumni sharing their stories to future students exploring theological education. Grateful for the encouragement and eager for the days ahead.
