The Letter to the Ephesians: An Exegetical and Theological Commentary by Dr. Thomas R. Schreiner is available now!
"Its themes revolve around identity in Christ, both for individuals and for the church. Paul's goal is to help believers see the beauty and glory of Christ and grow up into maturity."
Leading New Testament scholar Thomas Schreiner illuminates the text of Ephesians in this important, stand-alone commentary. Writing from an evangelical and Reformed perspective, Schreiner's focus is on exegesis of the text and on drawing out theological significance. For each section of text, Schreiner examines the flow of thought and then provides a verse-by-verse interpretation. His introduction to the letter deals briefly with topics such as authorship, historical setting, and epistolary structure. Schreiner's focus on exegesis and robust theological interpretation makes this an ideal resource for pastors, students, Bible teachers, and educated lay readers.

Reflecting today on the final semester I get to “dean” alongside Hershael York, as he retires from that particular role. He’s a pastor’s pastor, and that has shaped the way we teach ministry at @SBTS. May that legacy only increase.

For the third consecutive spring, Southern Seminary and Boyce College gathered to celebrate recipients of the Mary K. Mohler Scholarship. The inaugural 2024 luncheon honored ten students, while this year’s event welcomed 26 scholarship recipients, with 21 attending in person to share a meal with the donors who made their studies possible.
“I am both honored and humbled by this scholarship fund in my name,” Mohler said. “Our donors have truly been generous in providing funds for so many female students to study at Boyce College and Southern Seminary as they follow God’s call on their lives.”

One of the great privileges of my life is to host prospective students as they visit for Preview Day @sbts. I'm so thankful for this group as they followed a sense of God's call and for their passion for the gospel. I look forward to welcoming them back as students.

Across the spring semester, our faculty continued their work of writing for the church, producing resources that strengthen and equip God’s people. At the Bookstore at Southern, students filled the room for each release event, hearing directly from the authors and sharing in the joy of these moments.
These are not just new titles. They are the fruit of careful study, written to serve pastors, churches, and believers far beyond this campus.
Grateful for a semester like this, and for a faculty that continues to labor for the good of the church.

Make me understand the way of your precepts,
and I will meditate on your wondrous works.
Psalm 119:27
Finals Week is here, and campus is full of study and focus.
As students prepare for exams, they are not only mastering material, they are training their minds to think carefully, faithfully, and in service to the church.
Praying for clarity, endurance, and a deepened love for the truth in these final days of the semester.

This week, our Experiential Modular courses brought online students to campus for three days designed to help them experience life at Southern Seminary and strengthen relationships with faculty and fellow students.
They spent time in the classroom, shared meals with professors, attended chapel, and built friendships that carry into a lifetime of ministry.
Our next Experiential Modular will take place in September, and registration is already open. We hope to see you there!

Becoming a Disciple of the King: A Theology of Matthew by Jonathan T. Pennington is available now!
"Close study reveals a sophisticated structure, a refined hermeneutical strategy for rereading the Jewish Scriptures, and a nuanced combination of theological themes that reflect the author's rhetorical skills and personal faith."
Who is Jesus, and how can I become more like him? These fundamental questions echo through the ages, shape the Great Commission, and lie at the heart of the Christian life. Thankfully, the Gospel of Matthew offers a compelling answer, presenting Jesus as King, Teacher, and Messiah, while showing what it looks like to live faithfully in response to his call.

We had the joy of recognizing Michael Thomas with the Clyde T. Francisco Preaching Award in chapel this morning. This award is a scholarship and designation granted to a student enrolled in a master’s degree program at SBTS.
In his message from Romans 5, he pointed us to both the depth of our sin in Adam and the greater grace we have in Christ. Where Adam brings condemnation, Jesus brings justification.
The mercy of God is greater than our sin, and it calls us to live for Him.

“It is a great chance to meet students and to encourage them to consider SBTS, because we are eager to train them for ministry to reach the world for Christ.”

“We cannot know God apart from his holiness.”
In chapel, Dr. John D. Wilsey, Professor of Church History and Philosophy, preached from Isaiah 6 and called us to anchor our lives in the holiness of God. His holiness is not one attribute among many, it is the fullness of His perfection and the foundation of all reality.
When we see God rightly, everything else finds its proper place.

One day. One city. One shared mission to love Louisville well. 🏡
The 1937 Project takes its name from the historic flood of the Ohio River, but at its heart, it’s about our students spreading out across the city, serving their neighbors in tangible ways and opening the door for meaningful gospel conversations.
It’s a day full of small moments that add up to something bigger and we’re already looking forward to doing it all again next year. 🙌
