Once again, Mark Carney is taking credit for something he hasn't done. "This government has reduced the deficit by $11B, this government has reduced the level of debt across the entire forecast horizon." It was mostly all thanks to higher revenues from oil prices and resources, which he is trying to red tape even more rather than get building. The Spring Economic Update added $37.5B in new spending.

I remember when so many naïve people posted about how Carney failed to make a deal with Trump when all Europeans and other countries signed a deal with him. As Mark Carney said, such deals are not worth the paper they’re printed on.

@REWoman Ran businesses in 5 countries. Moved to Canada. Decided there were zero incentives. Stupid over-regulation, onerous employment and liability laws, high taxes, aggressive means-testing, high cost of compliance. No thanks.

Can someone please explain to me what benefit there is to making money in this Country when all the Govt does is take it back in taxes. Where is the incentive to be successful here ? I don’t get it. After seeing the taxes I just paid I feel sick 🤢

Avi Lewis was correct when he said that Carney's gas tax cut would simply be pocketed by the big corporations. Prices went down a for a few days, but shot back up as companies took the tax cut for themselves Carney and his Wall Street buddies are laughing at us

If you can't pay people a wage they can live on, your business is subsidised by the state. And that's NOT a sound business model. The economically illiterate person is you, pretending to be a good businessman while expecting others to support you through their taxes .
Peter McCormack 🏴‍☠️🇬🇧🇮🇪@PeterMcCormack

A minimum wage of £15 would end my coffee shop, it would have to close, as would many other businesses. I’ll explain for the economically illiterate. Staff costs are currently half our costs, a £15 minimum wage is actually more than £15 an hour for the company, because you have to add: - 12.07% holiday - Sick pay - Maternity pay if and when required - National insurance - Pension contributions These costs would mean the shop loses money because remember, energy costs are up, rates are up, regulations are up. Now you can pass these costs onto the consumer - that would mean charging a lot more for coffee, people won’t pay it. The likes of Starbucks and Costa can, because they have economies of scale. The independent doesn’t. Now the little socialist will say well this is your fault, if you can’t run a business that can afford to pay its staff properly, but the little socialist has never run a business and does not understand the dynamics. Now I could pay some staff off and fill those hours myself or reduce us to one staff member during certain periods - but this proves the point that a minimum wage costs jobs. There was a time when these jobs were done by kids, perhaps on the weekend, paid a lower wage, no holiday and no silly employment rights. Perhaps they were even paid cash. The dynamic worked and small businesses like this could operate. It was also a great first job. Sadly now it isn’t worth employing entitlement youngsters at this level of pay. So alas, I don’t need the stress, the business would close, a number of jobs would be lost. Economics is about understanding these dynamics, no vibes. The cost of living is not solved through passing on inflation to the business, it is solved by ending high inflation and creating prosperity. This is what socialists don’t understand, they can’t create prosperity, they can only destroy it.

Canada’s deficit went from 78B to 66B. How come nobody is talking about this? Canada is literally winning right now and all I’m hearing is @MarkJCarney is putting us in a deficit hole. Canada is a resource rich country. This gets better. Canada is long term bullish. 🚀

Fun Fact: 95 conservative MP’s voted against the middle class tax cut last year. 230 Liberal, NDP, and Bloc MP’s voted for it.

@CanadianCoffey Everyone knows liberal policies hurt the lower middle class the most. They just gas light them hand them a few pennies back to them, not rocket science

I'm going to be blunt here. When it comes to the economy. I don't know about you, but don't you think it makes more sense to follow and trust the advice of a qualified economist ( PM Carney ) over following the advice of a guy who pretends to be one on TV ( Pierre Poilievre ) ?

2 studies done by Air Canada and a consulting firm have proven expansion of Billy Bishop Airport is a terrible idea. It would increase traffic by 400% in downtown Toronto, destroy the harbour front inside and outside the island, increase pollution and devalue condos further.

So, yes Stephen Harper and the CPC had six consecutive deficits and added ≈$150 billion to Canada's debt from 2006 to 2015. Jean Chrétiein had nine consecutive surpluses and removed ≈$90 billion from Canada's debt...
Jason Grant@BigJGrant

@redsnoopy69 Canada weathered the World Financial crisis in 2008 because of Harper. Every year after that year the deficit lowered until Harper was voted out with a small surplus. Context is everything and you either ignorantly or purposefully left it out. Which is it?
