The inevitable conclusion from the released Putin-Bush transcripts: Putin didn’t invade Ukraine because he opposed NATO enlargement. Putin opposed NATO enlargement because it would have prevented his goal of invading and eliminating Ukraine. The ideas he had a quarter century ago - that Ukraine (and Kazakhstan) are “artificial countries” that have been “given away” by Russia and therefore must return — are the ideas he still holds today.

Russia deliberately struck a children’s hospital in Kherson on the morning of October 29. Russian military knew exactly what they were hitting – children, medical staff, the life itself. Both staff and children were injured, including an eight-year-old boy, his mother, and his brother. The hospital was heavily damaged. Around a hundred people were inside at the time of the strike. Nothing restrains Russia except pressure. Recent sanctions by the U.S. on Russian oil companies were the right move, and such measures must continue – to limit Russia’s resources and push it toward ending the war. Russia now acts as the world’s largest terrorist organisation. Terrorists must be met with strength and justice.

One of the largest mass shootings of the Holocaust happened in Ukraine. On 29–30 September 1941, in just two days, Nazi forces murdered nearly 34,000 Jewish residents of Kyiv at Babyn Yar, a ravine that became a site of unimaginable suffering. Now that Trump removed the threat of sanctions, Russia is pressing full-on with missile barrages on Ukrainian cities. Western Ukraine was targeted last night, particularly Lviv and Transcarpathia.

On the night of August 21, Russia attacked Ukraine with 614 aerial weapons, includind Shahed drones, Kinzhal and Iskander ballistic missiles, and Kalibr and Kh-101 cruise missiles. Ukraine’s air defense downed or suppressed 577 targets, but missiles and drones still struck 11 locations. In Lviv, one person was killed and at least three were injured; homes and vehicles were damaged. In Mukachevo, Zakarpattia region, Russia's strike injured at least 15 people. Attacks also hit the Dnipro region, where one person was injured and enterprises and a gas pipeline were damaged. A strike on Zaporizhzhia damaged industrial sites and shattered windows in homes. Russia also attacked Cherkasy and Khmelnytskyi regions. To strike an American-owned factory in Zakarpattia, Russia even used several cruise missiles. This was a civilian enterprise with U.S. investment, producing everyday items such as coffee machines. It was not the first Russian attack on American businesses in Ukraine – earlier this year, Russia also struck Boeing offices in Kyiv and other facilities. Russia’s airstrikes have no military logic – only terror against civilians, businesses, and normal life. Bilateral Ukraine-Russia and trilateral Ukraine-US-Russia talks are crucial for diplomacy to work, as well as reliable security guarantees from the U.S. and European allies. Strengthening Ukraine’s air defenses remains urgent to stop Russia's attacks.

President @ZelenskyyUA had a meaningful and productive conversation with President Trump. We are grateful to the U.S. for its engagement and continued commitment to supporting Ukraine and advancing peace. It is very important that the leaders of Ukraine and the United States agreed to meet in Washington, D.C., on Monday to discuss steps ahead to put an end to the killing and war. We value the American side’s positive signals regarding its willingness to work on developing reliable security guarantees infrastructure for Ukraine. We also support President Trump’s efforts to organise a trilateral leaders’ meeting between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia. Putin must understand the consequences of dragging out his war. He has lied too many times in the past and completely devalued his word. Only his actions are real indicators of whether he is truly willing to end his terror and aggression. That is why the strategy of peace through strength remains our priority. Increased pressure on Moscow and strengthening for Ukraine are critical components to advance peace. During this decisive time, we coordinate closely with all of our allies and thank them for their support and unity. Transatlantic unity is paramount to achieving lasting peace and security for all of us. Ukraine remains committed to peace efforts. We will continue to use every opportunity, even the smallest one, to end the war, save lives, and release our people. During the conversation, President Zelenskyy also conveyed his gratitude to First Lady Melania Trump for her sincere attention and efforts to bring forcibly deported Ukrainian kids back. This is a true act of humanism. We continue working toward peace and strengthening Ukraine in all domains.

We had a long and substantive conversation with @POTUS. We started with one-on-one talks before inviting European leaders to join us. This call lasted for more than an hour and a half, including about an hour of our bilateral conversation with President Trump. Ukraine reaffirms its readiness to work with maximum effort to achieve peace. President Trump informed about his meeting with the Russian leader and the main points of their discussion. It is important that America’s strength has an impact on the development of the situation. We support President Trump’s proposal for a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, the USA, and Russia. Ukraine emphasizes that key issues can be discussed at the level of leaders, and a trilateral format is suitable for this. On Monday, I will meet with President Trump in Washington, D.C., to discuss all of the details regarding ending the killing and the war. I am grateful for the invitation. It is important that Europeans are involved at every stage to ensure reliable security guarantees together with America. We also discussed positive signals from the American side regarding participation in guaranteeing Ukraine’s security. We continue to coordinate our positions with all partners. I thank everyone who is helping.

Russian forces attacked a passenger bus in the suburbs of Kherson with a drone on August 9, killing two civilians and injuring six more. The strike hit the bus as it was moving, with all victims inside the vehicle at the time. Preliminary reports confirm varying degrees of injuries among the wounded. Attacking a bus full of civilians is a blatant war crime. This is how Russia claims to “want peace” – killing innocent people while pretending to seek an end to the war but taking no real action.

The end of the war must be fair, and I am grateful to everyone who stands with Ukraine and our people today for the sake of peace in Ukraine, which is defending the vital security interests of our European nations. The path to peace for Ukraine must be determined together with Ukraine – this is fundamental. It is important that joint approaches and a shared vision work toward genuine peace. A consolidated position. Ceasefire. End of occupation. End of war.

We have just had a report from our team in the UK – from Andriy Yermak. There were talks among the security representatives of the U.S. and Europe – Ukraine, the U.S. – Vice President Vance, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Finland, Poland. The meeting was constructive.

I have not heard any partners express doubts about America's ability to ensure that the war ends. The President of the United States has the levers and the determination. Ukraine has supported all of President Trump’s proposals, starting back in February. Ceasefire, all formats have been supported. What is needed now is not a pause in the killings, but a real, lasting peace. Not a ceasefire sometime in the future, in months, but immediately. President Trump told me so, and I fully support it.
