people call it burnout like it’s a bad week.. fuck no girl, I mean neurodivergent burnout. the “can’t make a phone call, questioning who you are, tiredness that a years worth of sleep can’t cure, executive dysfunction holding me in a chokehold” kind.. and I masked through it all for YEARS..

One reason why a lot of autistic people may find it hard to set boundaries is that, from a young age, we are encouraged to ignore our unique needs to please others and fit in with the crowd. Most of us have had to sacrifice a lot to earn an education, career and place in society.

A neurodivergent person with a 1pm appointment cannot do anything before the appointment. cannot start a task. cannot eat. cannot focus. cannot relax. the entire morning belongs to the 1pm. and we will still be 4 minutes late.

I became very SELECTIVE with friendships once I learned envy does not always look hostile. Sometimes it looks fascinated.

Autistic people can actually "hear" better by looking away... this allows for auditory input without the discomfort of forced eye contact.
