Ireland’s population chart remains a wild one to look at. The country has still not recovered from the Great Famine (1845-52).

A lovely longterm view at the employment mix in the US since 1850. Agriculture obviously declined. The decline of manufacturing since the 1970s won’t be reversed all that much since any reshored manufacturing will be mostly robotic in nature. The business services class will continue to grow despite AI I would expect.

Not coming from an agricultural background, some measurements don’t make intuitive sense to me. A Hectares are easy enough to come to terms with: 10,000 square meters. Easy. An acre?! I still can’t wrap my head around this…

US homes have been growing massively over the last decades. So much so that indoor living area per person has tripled since 1950.

When the top 10% of consumers make up half of all spending, the economy can at the same time be technically going well while the majority of people struggle massively. This is the US right now. Hope that helps when thinking about societal problems.

Uluru transformed by rain 🌧️ Heavy rainfall turned the iconic rock into a series of flowing waterfalls, creating a rare and spectacular sight.

This website visualizes the 100,000 most popular Wikipedia articles as skyscrapers. I struggle to explain why but it is great fun. Have a guess what the most read article was in the last year! Source: wikicity.app

It might feel hard these days to stay optimistic but please remember that global clean-energy investment is twice as high as new fossil fuel investments. Conservative leaning regions slowly clue on to the joys of locally produced energy giving you independence from the big cats in the capital.

Louis Theroux’s documentary on the manosphere has many viewers asking why young men would follow influencers like Andrew Tate. But simply mocking these personalities misses the bigger story. From a demographic perspective, the rise of the manosphere coincides with a growing number of young men who feel disconnected from work, relationships and traditional paths to adulthood. When old playbooks stop working, alternative identities emerge. In my latest column I argue that if we want fewer young men drawn to angry online echo chambers, society needs to offer them something better to aim for: thenewdaily.com.au/life/social-me…

Captain Obvious speaking: increasingly unaffordable housing hits new homeowners more than more established mortgage holders. Only during the GFC did the scripts flip. This is US data.
