He doesn't throw them away. No, the smallest letter has not disappeared. As I said, Jesus shows us that the smallest letter is a metaphor for the deeper principle. I have shown this to you from the sermon on the mount, but you seem to not care of how Jesus literally used the law and showed us it's ongoing use as a means to enlighten principles. It is both preserved as the jot and tittle, and done away with as Jeremiah said it was as the New Covenant would "not be like the old one." How was it not like the old one? it was acted out externally literally. How does it abide? through the demonstrated jot and tittle, through the deeper principle. As Paul said, circumcision of the heart is what is required of all believers. And the diet had a two fold purpose. It kept the Jews separate from those around them (as did many of their laws since the break in diet customs was a social barrier), and the kosher animals had symbolic meaning. The requirements were for land animals that they have split hooves and that they chew the cud. Chewing the cud is how we are to take in scripture, taking it in thoughtfully and with care, dwelling on the same passages many times over just as the cud is chewed many times over. The split in the hoof reminds us of how God used separation to create the world, separating light from darkness, waters from land, water from sky. And then the Jews were to separate Holy from common, sin from righteousness, clean from unclean. It is to be a thoughtful and discerning people. And hooves were a barrier, a separation from the earth, from the world just as we are to remain separate from the world which is largely corrupt. And interestingly, symbolically, most people have hooves of sorts. So when Moses encountered the burning Bush which was a manifestation of God, God told Him "take off your shoes for you stand on Holy Ground." So there is to be no separation of us with the Holy. The birds were kosher if they were basically non predators. The Bible was using the principle "you are what you eat" (which is not a scientific claim, but a symbolically useful notion of the ancients) to teach the Jews that they were not to be like a predatory people conquering just for the sake of it, as a means of survival. The fish had to have scales and fins, which again, scales are a barrier from the world, and fins helped to navigate the world. And so many non kosher sea animals like crustaceans were boundary crossers. I could go on about the symbolism of the kosher diet that remains with us as a teacher of deeper spiritual truth, not just rules for the sake of rules. And I see, you seem to be a Muslim. Do you not know, against the Kosher rules of the Bible, Muhammed ate camel? Which does not have a split in the hoof? The plan of God was always to take the truths of God all around the world, yet the law was linked to the Land of Israel. It required sacrifices to God at the temple every year and for sin, yet these laws cannot be carried out for people all around the world. Then the laws were also very absorbed in the preisthood who serve at the Temple. But there is no Temple and there is no priesthood anymore. And the law also required observance of the Sabbath from sun down to sun down. But the law cannot be followed in all parts of the world for which God's truths hold, because for many people who lived near the arctic circle, for many weeks of the year, there is no sun down to mark the Sabbath because the Sun doesn't set for many weeks of the summer and it doesn't rise for many weeks in the Winter. Yet the Sabbath rest command remains with us through Jesus who said "Come to me all you who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest." Jesus is the New Sabbath.

Yes of coarse. If you keep on reading that passage, the sermon on the mount, Jesus said not one “jot or tittle” of the law will fall away from the law. But then he proceeded to demonstrate what he meant by the jot and tittle. He reinterpreted the law to be of the heart, of the people internal. So the law said not to commit adultery, but Jesus said that if you look at a woman lustfully, you’ve committed adultery. The law said don’t commit murder, but Jesus said of you hate a brother, you’ve committed murder in your heart. Jesus is indeed replacing the law, but that which abides is the deeper principle of the law. THAT is the jot and the bottle that abides. We still read the law for knowledge of God’s ways and expectations, not always to follow it externally and literally, but to know the deeper principle. We ask what it is that the old law achieved, and then we seek to apply that to the internal, to the situation. And that’s the very transition that Jeremiah said would happen when he said that the New Covenant would not be like the old. Yet there is continuity.

Old Testament required circumcision for Jews to separate them from those who were less concerned to keep the rigid laws of God. They were to stay a seperate people and not blend with the broken cultures around them. This is stated several times on the law. Judaism was to hold the Jews up as an moral example to the nations, so separation was essential. But the Old Testament such as Jeremiah said there be a new covenant that would emphasize the heart over the external as we read in Jeremiah 31:31-34 The New covenant comes and we see precisely an emphasis of heart over the external (as in the Sermon on the mount), and now the emphasis is no longer for separating God’s chosen people. The external means of keeping the people of God are eased in favor of the Holy Spirit to keep them distinct and now there is an evangelistic push ending those separating factors of the external.
