Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi visited The Pentagon with aim to Deepen India-US Military Partnership In a significant boost to India-United States military ties, Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi visited Pentagon on April 23, reinforcing strategic cooperation between the two armies. General Dwivedi was on an official visit to the United States from April 20 to 23. The visit was anchored around key engagements at the Pentagon, where General Dwivedi interacted with Daniel P Driscoll, United States Secretary of the Army and also met General Christopher LaNeve, Acting Chief of Staff of the US Army. The discussions focused on expanding bilateral defence cooperation, enhancing military-to-military engagement and exploring new avenues for collaboration in training, capability development and joint operations. Both sides emphasised the importance of interoperability and jointness in addressing emerging security challenges. General Dwivedi also held interactions with Elbridge Colby, Under Secretary of Defense for Policy and General Steven S Nordhaus, Chief of the National Guard Bureau. These engagements added a wider strategic dimension, covering defence policy coordination, institutional linkages and future areas of cooperation. The interactions at The Pentagon were a crucial part of the visit, reflecting the growing importance both nations attach to their defence partnership amid a dynamic global security environment. The exchanges helped build mutual trust and highlighted convergence on key strategic priorities.The visit marks another step forward in strengthening India-US defence relations, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to regional stability, enhanced capability development and deeper military cooperation.

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has asked former MP Eran Wickramaratne to relinquish his party membership following his recent appointment to head Sri Lanka Cricket’s Transformation Committee. SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara said the party has accepted Wickramaratne’s resignation from its Working Committee and Management Committee, but has also formally requested that he step down from the party altogether. The decision is in line with the SJB’s policy of not allowing politicians to hold positions in sports governing bodies. Wickramaratne was earlier appointed by Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage to chair the Sri Lanka Cricket Transformation Committee, which has been tasked with carrying out administrative and structural reforms in the country’s cricket system. The Minister has stated that the committee is not an interim body, but one focused on long-term transformation, and will function until fresh elections are held. (Newswire)
