The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) — better known as the Iran Nuclear Deal — was an agreement reached in 2015 under President Barack Obama between Iran and the biggest world powers (China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States), plus the European Union. The purpose of the Iran Nuclear Deal was to limit Iran's nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief. Iran agreed to significantly reduce its stockpile of enriched uranium and limit its enrichment level to 3.67%, which is sufficient for civilian nuclear power but far below the level needed for nuclear weapons (around 90%). Iran committed to reducing its operational centrifuges and only using its oldest and least efficient models for enrichment. More advanced centrifuges were to be stored and monitored. Limits were also placed on Iran's research and development activities related to advanced centrifuges. Iran agreed to let The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have access to its nuclear facilities, including continuous surveillance at uranium mills and centrifuge production sites, to verify Iran's compliance. In return for its commitments and agreements, Iran received relief from international sanctions imposed by the UN, EU, and the US. These sanctions had significantly impacted Iran's economy, particularly its oil revenue and access to frozen assets. You're a liar, it doesn't do that at all. That “zero” line you’re pointing to isn’t proof of “open borders,” it’s proof you either don’t understand the bill or you’re hoping nobody else does. The Senate bill intentionally excludes ICE and CBP funding because that piece is being negotiated separately. That’s the whole point of the compromise. This bill was meant to fund the rest of DHS, TSA, FEMA, Coast Guard, CISA, and keep people paid while the immigration fight continues. ICE and border enforcement are not being defunded. They are already funded under existing law, which is exactly why they could be carved out without shutting everything else down. And let’s be honest about what actually happened here, Democrats have been pushing for weeks to fund DHS agencies except ICE and CBP while negotiations continue. Republicans blocked those efforts over and over, then finally agreed to a split approach when the consequences became impossible to ignore. So no, that “zero” doesn’t mean zero border security. It means ICE funding is being handled separately because there’s a dispute over how that money is used, not whether the border exists. You’re taking a procedural budget line and pretending it’s policy. It’s not. It’s budgeting mechanics. If you actually read the bill instead of cherry picking one line, you’d know this was about reopening critical DHS functions and paying workers while the broader ICE and DHS funding negotiations continue.
