I’m inclined to be with Shermer here. Very low prior probability that aliens have visited Earth given all the physical and technological limitations. People believe a lot of weird things because they want reality to be more interesting than it is; this is one of those things.

Aliens have not and are not coming to Earth. Not ever. Not now. I've been hearing talk like this since the 1970s. It never ends. Just talk. No aliens. But, please, by all means, produce the aliens & I will believe. But my money is on the bet that it will never happen.

Here I was, reading Greg Boyd on a couch whose behavior is entirely determined by God, and I hadn't realized I was sitting on God.
My couch was not genuinely distinct from God, Couch is simply another name for God.

For some reason, the acknowledgments have been lined up to play after the preface, but other than that it looks great and I'm excited for this work to find a new audience. People keep asking if it's an audiobook, and now I can say yes!

I have just learned that Paul Helm (1940-2025) has passed away. Professor Helm was educated at @UniofOxford, taught philosophy at @LivUni then subsequently was appointed to the Chair of the History & Philosophy of Religion at @KingsCollegeLon. No stoics and no epicureans on the Areopagus today, so I had to debate my wife instead, on the thesis "we will come back to Greece in the future". I laid out my case quoting her own poets, and she said “we will hear you again about this”.
