@iAnonPatriot Quite the contrary. New York in the 1970s was a madhouse. Watch DEATH WISH, or what happened to Chris Chambliss as he tried to round the bases.

Madeline Kahn Born in Boston, raised in New York after her parents divorced when she was two. Her stepfather later adopted her, and that’s where the name “Kahn” came from. She studied drama at Hofstra, trained as a singer, and even worked as a singing waitress before breaking into Broadway in New Faces of 1968. Then came the run that made her unforgettable: Paper Moon, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, High Anxiety Two Oscar nominations. A Tony win in 1993. But what set her apart wasn’t just the comedy, it was that voice, that timing, and the way she could go from absurd to elegant in seconds. Gone too soon at 57 from ovarian cancer. Which role do you remember her most from?

@sissenberg @nytimes A correction will appear in tomorrow's print edition: "A headline with an article on Friday about President Trump’s threats to leave NATO misstated the full name of the body. It is the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, not the North American Treaty Organization."

@mtracey Jews generally preferred the urbane Eugene McCarthy to the "ruthless" Kennedy. RFK said "is this because of my father? That was 30 years ago!" This may be what led to his loudly public support of Israel.

Did you know? Ten days before he was killed, Robert F. Kennedy Sr. went to a synagogue in Portland, OR and pledged everlasting commitment to Israel, including sending them 50 Phantom jets -- a major policy shift, essentially formalizing the US role as Israel's chief arms supplier

The Godfather is referenced in at least two Diane Keaton vehicles in the 1970s. Still, those films didn't influence her star persona as much as you might think, given their popularity. More here: youtube.com/watch?v=qNVHs2…

Candlestick Park, San Francisco, April 1, 1960 - In 11 days, it will be go-time for baseball's newest cathedral when the Giants christen their new home against the St Louis Cardinals. From start to finish, it took 609 days to build this badly placed 43,765-seat ballpark by a cold and windy San Francisco Bay. It would be home to the Giants for the next 40 years, during which time the ballpark's capacity increased to over 60,000. Willie Mays would claim that the ballpark and its swirling winds cost him 100 home runs.
