“Surrender the outcome. Trust your training. Focus on the performance. Forget everything else.” This is what I have been telling myself before matches since the summer. My advice is to simplify the messages you tell yourself before matches. It’s okay if they don’t make sense to other people. Find words that resonate with you. When you simplify the messaging related to mindset, you can focus on technique. If your internal monologue is fear-driven you will compete scared. I’m happy that I won last week, but I’m most proud of the fact that at no point during the competition weekend did I ever want it to end.
