ISSF team has done well to pull out the numbers tracking the change in numbers of crude suppliers to India From 27 in 2018 to 41 this year, trend has been encouraging Keep in mind that Russia became top Oil supplier 3 years in a row from supplying mere 1-2% before Ukraine war
Indian Strategic Studies Forum@ISSF_India

In Numbers - India expanded its crude supplier network from 27 in 2018 to 41 countries by 2026. Since India imports up to 88% of its energy needs, diversification reduces vulnerability to geopolitical shocks.

ISSF's Team of Analysts did some digging around the latest article by Washington Post written by Ravi Nair We found that it did not even withstand basic scrutiny The main source of this article is a "letter" that the Author received in the month of May Who wrote that "letter", what's inside that, how did the Author obtained that "letter" has not been made clear, forcing readers to use their imagination The Article quotes now defunct Hindenburg Group, a notorious US based short seller who had earlier produced unsubstantiated reports on Adani group in order to make a profit from short selling LIC commands a total Asset Under Management of 54 Lakh Crore or $650 Billion Dollar It's investment are made independent of government and managed by professionally hired portfolio managers and board of directors This makes the premise that Ministry of Finance "fastracked" any proposal of LIC completely untrue Moreover, Adani group is not even in the Top 15 company of LIC's investment portfolio with Reliance industries taking the 1st position followed by companies like ITC and HDFC Bank The investment talked about in the Article is a bond which is rated AAA by Credit rating agencies, guaranteeing a 7.75% fixed and low risk return As of today, LIC investments in Adani have yielded a 15% return much larger than what the broader market is offering What needs to be noted is that Government of UAE, Qatar and French government through their Sovereign wealth funds and Public Sector Companies are also a major investor in Adani bonds and stocks Are we to assume these foreign government were also influenced by Government of India to invest in Adani? The Author is also a habitual offender, making unsubstantiated claims against Adani and the government Sometimes back when SEBI asked for proof of his accusations for independent investigation he refused to comply The timing of such articles against India company of national importance raise serious questions of attempts at financial terrorism
