This is mighty confusing! "advisers" working for Leo Varadkar paid "redundancy payments of €77,232 and severance payments totalling €396,415" The standard adviser employment contract says its term is "coterminous" with the boss, and no redundancy is paid.

Also on show today after 12pm: President Trump has signed an executive order declaring Christmas Eve and December 26th federal holidays in the US. Federal holidays aren’t quite the same as public or bank holidays but it raises an interesting question here at home. Should Christmas Eve be a bank holiday in Ireland? On one hand, it’s a time for families to be together. On the other, small businesses would argue it’s another costly paid day off and one less day for the retail economy at the busiest time of year.
