Elon Musk’s “TeraFab” is Tesla’s proposed massive semiconductor manufacturing project—an in‑house chip foundry designed to produce the company’s AI chips at unprecedented scale.
It’s Musk’s response to global chip shortages and his belief that Tesla must control its own silicon supply to meet future AI and robotics demand.

@elonmusk Millions of Iranians are living in digital darkness. Internet access to the outside world has dropped to nearly 1%.
please help break the wall of censorship and reconnect Iran to the free Internet 🙏🏻

@elonmusk Those who dn't know about Terafab...
Tesla's Terafab Project is a massive in-house semiconductor fab to produce billions of custom AI chips/year (logic + memory + packaging) for Optimus, FSD, Dojo/xAI clusters — bypassing TSMC/Samsung constraints & geopolitical risks.

In case you do not know, what is Tesla’s “Terafab” project
Tesla’s “Terafab” project refers to a proposed large scale factory designed to produce advanced artificial intelligence chips for the company’s vehicles, robots and AI systems.
The name comes from the idea of manufacturing chips at extremely high scale, similar to how Tesla uses the word “Gigafactory” for its battery and vehicle plants. In this case, the focus would be on producing AI processors that power Tesla’s software and machine learning systems.
Tesla already designs several custom chips used across its technology stack. These include the AI chips that run Full Self Driving inside vehicles and the processors used in Tesla’s training systems that help improve neural networks.
The Terafab concept would take that strategy further by allowing Tesla to manufacture AI chips at very large scale. This could help the company secure chip supply, reduce production costs and accelerate the rollout of its AI technologies.
Such chips are critical for Tesla’s long term plans. The company is building AI systems not only for cars but also for its Optimus humanoid robot and large scale computing clusters used to train artificial intelligence models.
If Tesla launches a dedicated AI chip fabrication project, it would move the company closer to controlling the entire AI stack from hardware to software to real world deployment.
That level of integration could play an important role in Tesla’s broader strategy to build autonomous vehicles, intelligent robots and large scale AI infrastructure in the years ahead.

@elonmusk @Imonit9000 Amazing news. While others are still debating the merits of AI Space Compute you are moving full speed ahead and making it happen. A Tesla Terafab creates a new growth wave for Tesla- add chip provider to the list.
English

@elonmusk Elon, I’ve followed you for years and I have to say: announcing a full-scale internal TeraFab while everyone else is still begging TSMC for scraps is one of the boldest, most strategic plays I've ever seen. Absolute legend move. Keep rewriting the game.🔥

@elonmusk Exciting news. Let’s go. No bottlenecks
