August 22nd, AFRO partnered with the Downtown Islamic Center for a film screening & discussion on “War On Sudan (documentary)” & “Gidam: Drums of Protest”! We were able to raise $70 in donations for Khartoum Aid Kitchen to help feed families in Sudan!

Come to our film screening and discussion this Friday (08/22) on Sudan with the Downtown Islamic Center. At this event we will be selling ABC shirts $15/each with $10 of each purchase going towards Khartoum Aid Kitchen to help feed families in Sudan!

August 6th the African Freedom & Reparations Operation (AFRO) donated 200+ books for various ages, art supply, games and more to Alain Locke Charter School!

The Public Health & Safety in a fight for redistributing CPD’s $300 million in vacancies and over time to protect and further fund non-police crisis response expansion, public mental health centers, Peacebook and the Chicago Department of Public Health!

Yesterday at UIC’s People’s University, a student based effort to ensure the safety of college campuses moving forward, the African Freedom & Reparations Operative distributed over 70 books to the community for free!

April 10th, during the “Safe Beats, Safer Communities” conversation and open mic hosted by UIC’s Women’s Leadership & Resource Center, AFRO was able to meet community needs by distributing 20+ books, Narcan and know your rights materials for undocumented folks!

On March 19th, AFRO hosted a powerful table talk on the ongoing femicide in Sudan, shedding light on this critical issue and fostering important discussions on the history of Sudan

Join us for The Beauty of Sudan: A Table Talk on Femicide on March 19th from 4–5 PM at the Black Cultural Center (UIC, Addams Hall 2nd Floor, 830 South Halsted). Partnered with uicdissenters ,we’ll dive into Sudanese culture while shedding light on the urgent issue of femicide

Yesterday AFRO concluded Black History Month with a discussion on Reagan’s war on drugs in addition to a harm reduction workshop + Narcan training led by the Chicago Recovery Alliance! The QR code attached will take you to the training!

On February 16th, AFRO partnered with the Downtown Islamic Center in a discussion where we talked about the influence of Islam in the Black community.

Join us on Feb 28 at 5pm in the UIC Black Cultural Center for a discussion on harm reduction and Michelle Alexander's The New Jim Crow with the Chicago Recovery Alliance. We will learn how to use Narcan and examine racial disparities in drug policy and mass incarceration

On February 10, 2025, AFRO held a teach-in on Haiti’s history of resistance and its modern impact. Pilsen Neighbors Community Council then led a Know Your Rights training on interacting with ICE and police for both documented and undocumented people.
