The Sikh community has made an enormous contribution to Britain. Sikh soldiers fought alongside us in war. Sikh families have helped build businesses, communities and public services across our country. One evil individual is responsible for his own actions. He does not represent millions of decent, peaceful Sikhs. It is not just in the UK that the police have issues. Right now, in France, the question everyone is talking about is “What happened to 11 year old Lyhanna?” Lyhanna is a schoolgirl from south west France. She was last seen getting into a car last Friday afternoon after she left school. The car belonged to her friend’s father, Jérôme Barella. CCTV shows this happening and she was not heard from again. Barella has been arrested and charged. A large scale search operation has been underway and yesterday a body was found in a silo on an agricultural farm, close to where she vanished and a former workplace of the friend’s father. It is looking increasingly likely that the body found is Lyhanna, since it is reported to be wearing the same clothes she was when she vanished. We are awaiting DNA results. But this is not just the tragic tale of a missing (and probably murdered girl). This could have been completely avoided if the police/authorities had done their job. It has now come to light that Barella has a clean criminal record but has been accused of 5 rapes/assaults against other minors, including the rape of a 10 year girl (another friend of his daughter) in August 2025 which was never followed up by the police, despite pressure from the family. Accusations include: 1. 2017: a mother reported him for grooming her 17 year old daughter. He was working in maintenance at her school and was then 32 years old. Because the daughter was “of age” the concerns were dismissed. 2. 2020: Barella was fired from his maintenance job at the school when he was found to be having an “inappropriate relationship with a student”. 3. 2022: Barella was accused of raping a 7 year old at his home. This was not prosecuted due to lack of evidence. 4. 2025: The mother of Rosa accused him of raping her 11 year old daughter at his home on a variety of dates. This accusation was made 9 months ago and the police have not progressed the case. 5. 2026: The father of a young girl accused him of raping her when she was at a pyjama party at his home, along with several other girls. A report was made in March 2026 and, again, nothing was done. This man has left a trail of offences against minors in his wake. He has obviously used his daughter to access young girls for a while. He has long lived in the same area but still the police/authorities could not join up the dots. If they had then this beautiful 11 year old would not have been abducted (and probably murdered).
