🏏 This morning, The King welcomed the Afghan national women’s cricket team to Clarence House. The team was set up during the Afghan Republic in 2010, but lost recognition as a national team following the Taliban’s return to power. In Afghanistan, women and girls are banned from playing sport, along with other restrictions on their education, work and public life. His Majesty was able to hear the stories of many of the players who fled Afghanistan and have rebuilt their lives as refugees, playing club cricket informally, and campaigning for recognition.

He was an afghan hero. RIP, wishing Afghanistan have that ability in future to travel to the space again 🇦🇫🇦🇫🇦🇫

با نهایت تأسف و تأثر، آگاهی یافتم که شخصیت برجسته و ملی افغانستان، عبدالاحد مومند، نخستین فضانورد افغان و یکی از افتخارات بزرگ کشور، در دیار غربت در آلمان چشم از جهان فروبست. مرحوم عبدالاحد مومند با دست‌یافتن به مأموریت تاریخی سفر به فضا، نام افغانستان را در عرصه جهانی مطرح ساخت و برگ زرینی را در تاریخ کشور رقم زد. دستاوردهای او نه‌تنها مایه مباهات نسل معاصر، بلکه الهام‌بخش نسل‌های آینده این سرزمین خواهد بود. اینجانب درگذشت این شخصیت ارزشمند و فرزند شایسته افغانستان را به خانواده و دوستان وی و تمامی هم‌وطنان عزیز تسلیت عرض نموده، از درگاه خداوند متعال برای آن روان‌شاد مغفرت، آرامش ابدی و برای بازماندگان صبر و شکیبایی مسئلت دارم.

It is with great sorrow that I have received news of the passing of Abdul Ahad Mohmand, Afghanistan’s distinguished national figure and the country’s first and only astronaut, who has died in exile in Germany. When he undertook his pioneering mission to the space, alongside a multinational crew led by the then Soviet Union, in 1988, the late Abdul Ahad Mohmand was the first Afghan and fourth Muslim to travel to space. He will forever be remembered for that achievement and continue to inspire generations of Afghans. I extend my heartfelt condolences his esteemed family, friends, and the entire Afghan nation. May his soul rest in peace and his memory remain eternal.
