A very unusual fall of one of the Iranian ballistic missiles in the skies over Tel Aviv, following a zigzagging, spiral trajectory… At first glance, you might think the missile is suffering from aerodynamic instability, causing it to spin around itself and create this twisted spiral shape. The falling glowing fragments may also suggest that it is breaking apart. However, while that could explain the missile’s rotation, it does not explain the complexity of its curved trajectory in this way… The only plausible explanation for such a path is that the missile is executing what is known as a Maneuverable Reentry Vehicle (MaRV). In this case, the spiral trajectory is not random—it is designed to break the radar “lock” of air defense systems, whose algorithms predict future paths based on speed and angle. As for the glowing fragments, they are likely decoys, deployed along different paths to further confuse Israeli air defense systems. We saw similar behavior during the bombardment of Tel Aviv at dawn yesterday.
