On this Kentucky Derby day, here’s your reminder that Secretariat was faster than any horse who has ever lived. The year is 1973 and this is his track record run. Untouched for 53 years. The GOAT.

It was a snowy February day in 1956 when Dutch immigrant Harry deLeyer arrived late to a horse auction in Pennsylvania. The sale was over, and the remaining horses — tired, unwanted, and bound for slaughter — were already loaded onto the truck. As the truck began to pull away, Harry locked eyes with a gray gelding peering through the slats. Something stirred in his heart. With his last $80, he stopped the driver, made the deal, and gave the horse a second chance. He named him Snowman, because his gentle gray coat blended perfectly with the Long Island winter snow. Harry thought he’d make a quiet, safe school horse for his riding students. But Snowman had other plans. No fence could hold him. What started as playful jumps over farm rails soon revealed an extraordinary talent. Just two years later, this former “worthless” workhorse was competing against the finest Thoroughbreds in the country — and winning. In 1958 and 1959, Snowman became National Horse Show Champion, capturing hearts across America. Offers poured in, some for huge sums of money. Harry always gave the same answer: “He’s not for sale. He’s family.” Snowman lived to the ripe age of 26 on the deLeyer farm, surrounded by love. His story reminds us that sometimes the greatest champions are the ones others overlook — and that a single act of compassion can change everything. ❤️ #SnowmanTheHorse #TrueStory
