@icigasu_shine Oops, I summed some numbers twice in the "All User" statistics. I corrected it.

I added a new page on #COIAS AOMAP so you can see more detailed statistics on the objects given designations by the MPC, and the contribution of different users just like on the COIAS website. Thanks to @icigasu_shine for helping with translations. aomap.nekoweb.org/stats.html

NSF-DOE Rubin Observatory
Introducing over 11,000 new members of the Solar System...and our main survey hasn't quite started yet! ☄️ Using pre-survey observations from 2025, NSF–DOE Rubin Observatory scientists have reported more than 11,000 new asteroids and comets! 🔗: rubinobservatory.org/news/11000-new…

@icigasu_shine Once upon a time I asked this very question on the MPML and the collective response I got was "Yes, the clock can be wrong sometimes because of this and that reason, and there was this case where it was wrong back in this year...", but nothing much about what I can do about it.

The SARC staff are insisting that we verify whether the time in the FITS header is correct(not about TAIvsUTC or ExpmidvsExpstart)—aren’t they taking this a bit too far? How are we supposed to do that when we have no way of knowing if the observatory’s clock is even accurate?

I want to make an animation like this for aomap where minor planets pop up at first their sighting, but frankly I don't know how to figure out the first COIAS observation of an object among all observations. upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/comm…

Oh, by the way, it makes very small difference, but I still believe Solar System astronomers should switch to using the invariable plane as the reference plane rather than Earth's orbital plane, but that's probably just me...

From #COIAS, I just noticed 2015 FF565 (i=175.9 deg) is even more retrograde than 2015 FR561 (i=174.4 deg)! It wasn't on the map before, so this is my first time noticing it. Of course both objects have very short observation arcs, so I don't know how good these values are...

In latest aomap, if you use a very high animation speed, some asteroids may appear to move very slowly because the update rate you chose (days/frame) is resonating with the asteroid's orbital period. Like helicopter rotor blades matching a camera's frame rate

Maybe you can use an "a > 30" filter instead

I switched aomap's animation slider to logarithmic scale. Now it should be easier to see TNO movement as well as NEO. But as before, the orbits are computed using 2-body relations, so if you go too far away from the MPC epoch, it might be inaccurate. aomap.nekoweb.org

Nice orbit visualizer that appeared on my Twitter feed, easy to add asteroids

minorplanetcenter.net/mpec/K26/K26FH…
