Really excited to see what Genshin has in store for us for Mare Jivari. A good detailed documentary about the legend of Bakunawa by Aswang Project, if you want to learn more of its origins and what it came to be one of the most popular PH folklore. youtu.be/s6xZNFvPklo?si…

@BrixArtan @NantesTheBest @caldatelier I appreciate your concern…there is no shortage of misinformation from the Spanish, American authors visiting the Philippines, and the first Filipino folklorists. Your concern deserves investigation into the original folk beliefs and why this belief was documented as such.

@BrixArtan @NantesTheBest @caldatelier Folklore changes and evolves. While this belief may not be what you know in your region today, that doesn’t mean it was never part of folklore. The modern practice of sanitization and denial of historical beliefs and practices is concerning.

@caldatelier The information is in The Creatures of Philippine Lower Mythology by Maximo Ramos. Not sure what all the fussy comments are about, but it was recorded and documented by a Filipino from Filipinos. The belief may differ from region to region.

KSD: Ang Aswang sa Capiz (video is in Tagalog) I'm always embarrassed to hear my name mentioned in other's projects, but am so grateful that some of my work could help result in such a thoughtful presentation regarding the aswang stigma in Capiz. youtu.be/Mb31dlOtIw0?fe…

Grandma was-- my best word for it-- a shaman, an herbalist (albularyo), despite her devout Catholicism. I never got to ask her deeper questions about her craft while she was still with us, and that's one of my little rergrets. |2
