Thank God you said every 50/50 call and not every 60/40 call. I played amateur football and sometimes you see good players who the coaches would rather start convince the coach to make them subs. It's obvious Martinez does not have the balls or the foresight to see what the team needs. Ronaldo could have helped him make that decision. With everything we’ve seen - and are still seeing - you’re calling it a “nonsensical conspiracy theory?” Especially when the FIFA president, who’s supposed to be neutral, openly shows support for Argentina and Messi. Dey play.

No, he had Nunes of Man City on the bench for the entire tournament. He could have tried him in midfield or used him the way Pep does, with Cancelo pushed further forward. A midfield of Neves–Nunes–Fernandes, or Vitinha–Neves–Trincao behind Felix–Ramos–Conceicao, would have offered the legs to start games. Then, in the second half, he could have brought on Fernandes and Ronaldo, or Vitinha and Ronaldo, to exploit tired defenses. Of course, this is all hindsight. But I expected a coach of Portugal's calibre to make tactical adjustments after the group stage rather than sticking with the same approach throughout the tournament.
