At the start of the 20ᵗʰ century, physics was stuck. Space and time were considered absolute—unchanging and universal. Then came a young man with bold ideas and a mind full of questions: Albert Einstein. Einstein studied at the Swiss Federal Polytechnic in Zurich, but after graduating, he struggled to secure a teaching position. Instead, he took a job at the patent office in Bern, reviewing other people’s inventions. Yet during quiet moments, his mind was far from routine work—he was immersed in thought experiments, imagining riding alongside beams of light and questioning the nature of time itself. Then came 1905—his annus mirabilis, or “miracle year.” In a series of groundbreaking papers, Einstein transformed physics: He showed that light behaves as discrete packets of energy (quanta), laying the foundation for quantum theory. He explained Brownian motion, providing strong evidence for the existence of atoms. He introduced the theory of special relativity, redefining space and time as relative rather than absolute. From this theory emerged the famous relation between mass and energy: E = mc² That quiet patent clerk had, in a single year, rewritten the fundamental laws of the universe.

@FloatyRedHead23 It is! British copper was 100% from 1672 till 1860. After that it was a bronze alloy up until 1992.

@NoahRevoy @Kintsu154943 @Kat_Tinuviel @HazelAppleyard There's a big difference between saying you value your partner for their personality, and saying your partner is unattractive. I value my wife for her personality. I also happen to see her as the most beautiful woman in the world.

You would walk away from a healthy relationship, even a marriage, because your husband told his friends he values you more for your personality than your looks? That is something everyone can already see, and something you acknowledge is true. Ending a relationship over that reflects immaturity. It undermines your ability to sustain a relationship at all.

About 300 years ago, there was a man, when the world couldn’t explain how stars move, he didn’t wait for answers—he created an entirely new kind of mathematics: calculus. Today, we use supercomputers and rockets to explore space. Yet every single one of them still follows the rules he wrote down. No technology, no screens—just ink and pure genius. And the most astonishing part? We’re still trying to fully understand it.

@Alexandr4Denman Britain existed first. It was a Roman province. Then it was split into a number of Celtic kingdoms (Powys, Dumnonia, Gwent etc). Only after that did the Anglo-Saxons arrive.

@Alexandr4Denman What about Buddhists, or atheists, or Wiccans? Should they be forced to swear to a god they don't believe in? Christianity is not the only religion.
