As top U.S. officials consider the resumption of explosive nuclear weapons testing, it is critical to remember that this would be an unnecessary, unwise, and unwelcome move. yahoo.com/news/articles/…

NATO is supposed to be a DEFENSIVE alliance, with members offering mutual support if one is attacked. It is NOT designed to assist wars of aggression started by one of its members, as Trump now suggests. trib.al/LKjMWfx

Two addtl. facts about the 440 kg of HEU: 1) In an interview on Face the Nation on March 15, FM Araghchi said that one element of Iran's Feb. 26 proposal to Witkofff was to "downblend" Iran's stockpile of uranium enriched to 60 percent to lower levels. 1/2 x.com/mgordonwsj/sta…
laurence norman@laurnorman

Dealing with Iran’s HEU fissile material presents difficult choices for @realDonaldTrump. Gamble on siezing it would be complicated and hard. Leaving it there would be risky too, leaving Iran a possible nuke bomb pathway. Our story. With @mgordonwsj wsj.com/world/middle-e…

Declaring that no quarter will be given unequivocally violates international humanitarian law. Indeed, ordering that no quarter will be given, threatening an adversary therewith or conducting hostilities on this basis is prohibited and constitutes a war crime.
Acyn@Acyn

Hegseth: No quarter, no mercy for our enemies. Yet some in the press just can't stop. More fake news from CNN reports that the Trump administration underestimated the Iran war's impact on the strait of hormuz. The sooner David Ellison takes over that network, the better.

Much of the policy discourse equates nuclear deterrence with security through a circular line of argumentation. Academia is slowly but surely investigating nuclear deterrence more critically. Horrible. Israeli attacks on refineries are making it rain oil. Attacks on hospitals, desalination plants, schools, etc. must stop. Why? Intentionally directing attacks against civilian objects constitutes a war crime in intl. armed conflicts. See: ihl-databases.icrc.org/en/customary-i…

Remember this: the same Trump who ordered the attack on Iran on the basis of a vague "I felt strongly they were going to attack first" sense is the same person who has the sole authority to order a nuclear attack if he somehow "feels" some nuclear-armed "they" might attack first.
Aaron Rupar@atrupar

Q: Did Israel force your land to launch these strikes against Iran? TRUMP: No. I might've forced their hand. It was my opinion that these lunatics were gonna attack first.

Strikes on nuclear sites, in this case an Israeli nuclear weapons materials production facility, are dangerous and illegal under international law. But then again, the U.S. and Israel crossed that red line in June 2025.

Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez on Iran: The position of the Spanish government in this situation is clear and consistent. It is the same one we have maintained in Ukraine and also in Gaza. First of all, no to the violation of international law that protects us all, especially the most vulnerable, the civilian population. Secondly, no to assuming that the world can only solve its problems through conflicts, through bombs. And finally, no to repeating the mistakes of the past.

Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez on Iran: Twenty-three years ago, another US administration dragged us into a war in the Middle East. A war that, in theory, it was said at the time, was being fought to eliminate Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction, bring democracy and ensure global security. But which in reality, seen in perspective, produced the opposite effect, it unleashed the greatest wave of insecurity that our continent has suffered since the fall of the Berlin Wall. The Iraq War generated a drastic increase in jihadist terrorism, a serious migration crisis in the Eastern Mediterranean and a generalized increase in energy prices.
