Millions of Americans may not “go to university” and many people in the inner cities will not “engage, or contribute to society.” are they not worthy of life? There are many many people with down syndrome who go on to lead meaningful lives, and even if they didn’t, that doesn’t justify murdering them.

They are some of the happiest people because they are permanent children. They’ll never engage in intellectual discussion. They’ll never go to university. It’s not life.

You cannot claim that you’re aborting your Down syndrome child because you don’t want him to “suffer.” First of all, killing a child so they don’t suffer is psychopath serial killer logic. You’re on the same moral plane as Andrea Yates. Second, children with Down syndrome are famously some of the happiest people you’ll ever meet in your life. They are not in fact living in a state of perpetual torment. So what’s really happening is that you’re killing your child so that YOU won’t suffer the inconvenience of caring for him. This is about freeing yourself of your own perceived suffering. If you’re going to be a child killing sociopath, at least be honest about it.

If the argument for aborting a Down syndrome child is to spare them from "suffering," but kids with Down syndrome are consistently among the most joyful people alive, then the suffering you're actually avoiding is your own. At what point do people move from babies with down syndrome to babies who may be “dumb”? Or what about short, maybe more prone to being over weight, or what about having adhd…. There’s no stopping what children are “disposable”.

I’m genuinely shocked how quickly everyone moved on from the heinous murder of Austin Metcalf. If any sentence lighter then life is given to Carmelo Anthony then that would be the justice system, spitting in the face of the Metcalf family. Accountability must be taken, not just for punishment, but for prevention. And the fact that people in the US would be taking Anthony’s side is a direct piece of evidence to the downfall in our society’s ability to understand right from wrong. #JusticeForMetcalf
