@BitnerBill Interesting. Good to notice what you miss when you over are focusing. The systems approach has proven to be very effective when looking at environmental issues. Would be interesting to explore how you might solve a specific problem by zooming out rather than in. But there you go.

What is the opposite of divide and conquer? Expand and envelop? - Perhaps an underrated problem solving strategy in Computer Science.

@HaloedPayload Something that came to mind was working on a network performance problem. We had set traces but they weren't triggered. Decided to ask for a network diagram (should have earlier). When we got that, it was obvious there were multiple TCP/IP stacks and we had traced the wrong one.
