Haven't been on here much, mainly due to recovering from longcovid and it being exhausting. Despite all that, v.pleased with our latest collaborative work (aptly) on rapid SARS-CoV-2 variant detection with ability to discriminate single nucleotide changes. medrxiv.org/content/10.110…

New Huang lab publication. We report the first nanopore that directly discriminates between structurally similar Nucleotide Sugars.🤠 | Nano Letters pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10.10…

@SEBiology Thank you for the invitation to speak today and a really enjoyable seminar. I don't venture on twitter too often these days, but wanted to pop in to say thanks and thank you for the live coverage on here too. An impressive additional way to disseminate!

@jenscs83 Upscale in ImageJ so 1 pixel becomes a square of 9 or 16 identical pixels. Then when exporting in any format that compresses you invoke, in effect, sub-pixel (in respect to the acquired image) interpolation, preserving single pixel detail. Really good for single molecule imaging.

@sophie_gadd Hi Sophie. Any chance I could DM/email you about some LEGO based science we've been working on? We think we've done some interesting stuff with LEGO which will soon be published and so would be keen to share with you/find out your thoughts. Thanks :)

When coming to Oxford in 2012, it was not all work. I had the pleasure to meet my former colleagues and friends, Ollie and Argyris! Thanks guys, hope to see you soon! @Castell_Lab @A_Politis1

2. One team made use of the STAR activator module in their circuit design. This is a neat synbio regulatory part invented by @ChappellLab who was once upon a time a student himself on the very first year we ran this module with mini-iGem projects.

It’s the last day of our final year undergrad synthetic biology module and time for the students to present their mini-iGem projects in our first in-person poster session for 2 years. 👏🧬🎉 —> here are the 6 projects —>

@alanmcn1 Yep. It's the 'every possible step' bit of the quote, I suppose - no doubt there was ambition for unprecedented scale, but declining/ignoring help Feb-May doesn't seem to quite sit with everything possible. A crazy time. Well done on MK btw.

@alanmcn1 You did great. I know other Universities found it incredibly difficult to help though, despite having operational testing pipelines and capacity and will to expand.

@alanmcn1 ...the government "took every possible step to build the largest diagnostic industry in UK history rapidly and from scratch". 🧐

Happy #FluorescenceFriday! Some absolutely stunning cell bio images today, but these droplet interface bilayers are beautiful to me. First time patterning them at @UNSWBABS and first time achieving selective injection. Watch this space! ;)

Reminiscing about that time in 2012 when newspapers were full of stories about how government had accidentally taxed pasties and all the politicians had to rush around pretending that they loved pasties and ate them regularly.

@JinLi_AOR did an great job driving this work. I’m sure he’d be keen to give a talk/seminar if anyone's keen to hear more. Give him a follow too!

People seemed to quite like levitating droplets, so a couple more vids from @JinLi_AOR First, Jin shows you can spin and reshape droplets, using this to break/reform lipid bilayers (DIBs) between internal cores, and to reconfigure the droplet network. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
