🌱 Want to see a plant fusion update? Progress on my technique from Nov '24! Apex and first branch grew unchecked for healing, first branch cut for back budding. Redirected new aerial roots to speed up remaining healing. Any useful techniques? Share them in the comments. Building trees takes time, but techniques like this can take several years off of trunk development. #PlantCare #GardeningTips #FusionTechnique #StayDrivenByWhatYouLove #EmblemBonsai #bonsai #art #gardening #BonsaiGetsMeWired

This is a tiny tree that I’ve had fun working on. It’s a Parrot’s Beak (Gmelina philippensis) and it’s only about 2 inches tall after pruning. In order to get the kind of growth that you see in the first two pictures, its tiny pot was placed into a tray of soil and the roots were allowed to grow down into the tray. This encourages more vigorous growth than the tree would have experienced if its roots were confined to the bonsai pot alone. #StayDrivenByWhatYouLove #EmblemBonsai #bonsai #art #gardening #BonsaiGetsMeWired

This tree was a trade-in brought to me by a customer 3 years ago. Seeing the value of the nebari, a chop was made above the first branch and I placed it into a 15 gallon pot to grow and thicken. Yesterday, I took the time to begin building a new canopy on the beautiful base. First pic is from 2022. Other pics were taken yesterday. #StayDrivenByWhatYouLove #EmblemBonsai #bonsai #art #gardening #BonsaiGetsMeWired

You should always have a picture in your mind of what you want a tree to look like in the future. Here’s an example. Current-vs-planned branch structure. I drew in branches where they will be needed and I will work toward building a canopy like the one on the right. Adding branches will be necessary and can be accomplished by taking advantage of back budding that forms in the right places or by grafting branches where needed. This tree will get a more style-appropriate pot as it approaches its final design. #StayDrivenByWhatYouLove #EmblemBonsai #bonsai #art #gardening #BonsaiGetsMeWired

This tree belonged to a client and the top of the tree died. This was unfortunate, but the tree was not a complete loss. Redesigning a tree due to damage (whatever the cause) can actually be quite rewarding and it adds to the tree’s story. Before, during, and after the redesign of a Hackberry. Trimmed, hollowed, wired, and returned to a nursery pot temporarily. #StayDrivenByWhatYouLove #EmblemBonsai #bonsai #art #gardening #BonsaiGetsMeWired
