Lauren Betts on opening up to her team about her depression: “My mom stayed in LA for a whole week with me after I was released from the hospital. I took some time away from school and the team. That was what I needed. And yet, stepping away from basketball was extremely hard. I felt like I was letting my teammates down. I was so embarrassed and mad at myself. They lost a couple games during my absence, and I was like, My team really needs me right now. What am I doing? The whole time I was in the hospital, I was thinking about our group. What are they thinking about me? How are they going to react? I was just so ashamed. When I came back, I remember they were practicing in Pauley that day, and my mom came with me. A part of me just wanted to walk in the gym like, ‘Hey everyone, I’m back!’ And throw on a practice jersey and start warming up. But my mom and Cori encouraged me to address what happened and just speak from the heart. So in the film room, before practice started, I spoke to everyone. I said, ‘I just want you all to know.... I’ve been dealing with depression. This is what’s been going on in my head. And yeah... I love you guys so much. And I’m sorry that I had to leave.’ Then I braced myself for their reactions. And of course, there was never anything to worry about. They were all like, ‘We’re so happy that you took care of yourself. You’re coming back even better. We love you.’ In that moment, you could probably literally see the stress leaving my body. I remember half of the team was crying. They were all giving me hugs, and the coaches hugged me, too. Have you noticed this SUPER IMPORTANT trend in the NCAA tournament? Half of your shots come off the catch! And according to analytics (HS to NBA and WNBA), they're the highest Points Per Shot or EFG%. Each additional dribble you take after the catch, your shooting percentage goes down. Make sure your offseason workouts are aligned with this! Offseason workouts should contain these elements after a game-like cut: - Shots off the catch - Shots off 1 dribble > finishing move - shots off 1 dribble > pull up jumper - Shots off dribble move > finishing move - Shots off dribble move > pull up jumper - 1v1 and 2v2 games The 1v1 and 2v2 games replicate the action you're trying to practice. That way, they get used to shooting and make decisions against live defenders.

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. “Boys” Basketball players get to show emotion when they dunk, hit 3s get stops on defense and other scenarios. Refs turn a blind 👁️ but when “girls” basketball players do the same we are quick to call them “arrogant” or “showing” the other team up. The double standards are INSANE

The day referees officiate girls as BASKETBALL PLAYERs and not girls, we will have more exciting games! Don’t let this message go over your head !

Started as a freshman on a state playoff team- returned this year after missing soph season and her strength/ versatility allows her to guard 1-5 and play any guard position. Loves to compete

Size/ length/ Gets to her shot. Range continues to expand. Will continue to get better and better. Adds something every year .
