Sarcopenia (excessive muscle size, quality, and functionality with aging) is highly preventable.
New systematic review & network analysis added to the extensive evidence base.
Many ways to get there, but resistance training + sufficient protein intake is an excellent approach.
Paper Conclusion: High-certainty evidence supports that resistance and balance training combined with protein-based nutritional supplementation as the most effective intervention for improving muscle strength, muscle mass, and physical function in individuals with sarcopenia. We recommend combining RBT with protein and amino acid supplementation as an optimal strategy when feasible.
