"The ability to consistently execute the game’s fundamentals is both an individual and a team skill. The way you practice those fundamentals is how you build the consistency to successfully execute them when the lights go on." Boring Baseball 🗞️ abca.org/magazine/2024-…

Exploitative. Unethical. Costing players future earnings. Why the Perfect Game, Fanatics deal has agents raising concerns: theathletic.com/5474072/2024/0…

Coach your youth teams however you want. Coach your HS teams however you want. But if you want them to play at the next level, all position players need to: (thread 🧵) 1. Play really good catch. Not adequate catch, not good enough catch. Good teams play really good catch, it looks different, feels different. I’ll never understand why bad teams insist on treating it as an after thought. 2. Be able to hit linedrives on middle, middle fastballs & breaking balls. If you hit you won’t sit. You don’t need to be able to rake every down & away slider, or dotted fastball, but you will need to be able to hit mistakes. 3. Be able to get a bunt down. It can get you opportunities. The only people who say bunting is pointless can’t bunt or couldn’t bunt, or are done playing. 4. Understand their job on bunts & 1st/3rd situations. 5. Be able to execute a rundown in one throw. It ain’t that hard. 6. Hustle without being told. You’re not Ronald Acuna Jr, hustle until then. 7. Not throw a $h!t fit when they get out. Grow up. Guys who spike their stuff all the time just show they don’t understand the game. 8. Be aware enough to backup plays. Understand the game, be where you need to be. 9. Know how to lead off & read dirt balls effectively. If you’re not a racehorse that’s fine, but Clydesdales still need to advance on dirt balls. 10. Know how to work independently outside of team practice. You either want it or you don’t. Work accordingly.

The Division 1 baseball recruiting period ended yesterday. There will not be D1 coaches at any of your games, showcases, practices, etc. until March 1st of next year. The only exception is if you attend a camp at an individual school. Now is the time to get after it on the development side. You've got 4-5 months to separate yourself from everyone else. Lift... eat well... take care of your body... work on the things you are not good at... challenge yourself! This is also a great time for '24 grads to start expanding target school lists. Keep all options open. D2, D3, NAIA, JC are all very competitive and there are players from every level transferring to D1 schools now because of the transfer portal.

It's pretty clear that the college transfer portal has become the focus for college sports. High school athletes who aren't the best of the best are going to have a harder time earning a scholarship. It's the new era. Somebody needs a solution to save high school recruiting.
