@IkeVictor @dhh @intel @Dell If you’re on M1 or M2, try Asahi ALARM. If on M3-M5, try VMware and install Omarchy. For both cases github.com/basecamp/omarc… is very helpful. Plus the idea of “disposable computer”. All that will help you to get out of the Apple trap. Gradually.

@dhh @intel @Dell i love watching the progress of Omarchy. I'm still locked in the Apple ecosystem though. maybe when these companies start requires a certain 3 digit number on my wrist and forehead to create a user account I'll make the switch over to Omarchy 7.0 lol

Omarchy 3.5 is out with full Panther Lake support thanks to co-development by @intel and @dell. We're seeing idle draws in the 1-3w range and real-world mixed use of 16+ hours on ~74wh batteries. Amazing chipset! Also, two beautiful new themes. Enjoy! github.com/basecamp/omarc…

Love how many computers Omarchy have brought back to life. Windows and macOS will end-of-life devices willy-nilly, but Linux revives them from obsolence, and proves that even a 2012 CPU is PLENTY FAST for so many things. Even a gorgeous tiling window manager like Hyprland.

Still amazing, because M1 is already plenty.

@damiankleiman @dhh To build/bundle iOS app. You can already do it with things like expo from any OS but way less convenient in my experience. Takes a lot longer + costs money. But if you have a suggestions let me know!

@techskillissues @dhh In the Omarchy code there is a lot of reusable techniques which can be applied on your own system. I have applied some of them even on macOS, so at least my Alacritty+Zellij could have Omarchy vibes. Well, to be honest, I did that before Omarchy, re-using aesthetics from Omakub.

Omarchy comes with strong lineup of default themes, but the community has been adding a million more on top of that. Love to see it.

@Ahmed_Ali_Saber @dhh Because, at this stage, it simplifies the Omarchy development process. It also helps to commit to use Omarchy only, without switching between OSes. It takes about 5 minutes to install Omarchy. Put a pendrive into USB and you have dual boot. If it’s too slow, use external SSD.

@primex001 @dhh @0xMajinBuu Depends how you look at it. Downgrade to M2 and you can have it using Asahi-ALARM trick as the base OS. Any performance loss vs M3 you will gain back thanks to Omarchy efficiency on M2. On VMware once it is full screen - feels like base OS. And will make your M3 even faster!

Omarchy 3.4 will ship with a new Remove > Preinstalls option, so purists can get that barren default setup they've been asking for. Just Neovim, terminals, browser, media readers, and the defaults. Take it, heathens!

"Sold out" for a niche dev aesthetics conference is wild. A few years ago this crowd was scattered across Discord servers and lonely blog posts. TUIs, tmux, and vim configs becoming conference-worthy tells you something about the pendulum swinging back from "everything must be a web app" maximalism.

@rodrigoromo28 @dhh You can! That’s the beauty of open source. I have recently replaced Limine with GRUB on Omarchy 3.3.3 so an old white MacBook from 2010 could have Omarchy.

@dhh I wish I could chose to install or not the Bootloader or even chose what bootloader to install.

@yamiships @dhh On some older computers or even in VMware, Ghostty takes a lot of CPU resources because the GPU acceleration is done by software. Great that Alacritty is there as a fallback.
